Moving to Alaska to Chase my Dream

Donation protected

This is Dragon, an amazing lead dog for Deedee Jonrowe, he is resting up after a long run and some therapy treatments here. He has raced the Iditarod many times but to do so he, along with all the other dogs, need constant care. I spent the last 5 months in Alaska working for Deedee and all the dogs; this was a dream come true for me.

Since I was 3 years old I have said I want to be a veterinarian. I want to focus and work with sled dogs and athlete animals. I fell in love with sled dogs in 2nd grade after learning about the Iditarod. I applied for vet school a year ago and was not accept (so competitive). This was tough to take and started looking for other career choices. Wasn't having much luck when one day I got a call from a friend who got the job as a dog handler for Deedee, he said they needed one more. I spoke with Deedee and 2 days later had a ticket out to Alaska.

Deedee is incredible! She instantly got me working with the medical care for the dogs. Taught me all the rehab and therapy they need along with medications. Just so happens that UAF and CSU sign an agreement to open a vet school at University of Alaska Fairbanks this past year! First application process will start this October for the 2015 school year. Deedee spent all 5 months I was up there convincing me to not give up yet and to move out there get my residency and apply one more time. Her support and encouragement worked. I have decided to do just that.

I am home now packing, selling, and reorganizing all my things to determine what I will bring back to Alaska. I am hoping to sell my car and get something bigger since I will be bring all 3 of my dogs out there with me. Anything I can raise here will be helping to fund my 4,000+ mile drive back to AK. Anything extra that is raised will be used for my application to vet school and/or off setting the price of a new used van or truck.

I am beyond grateful for any help you can offer me to help me get one giant step closer to my dream. I created a blog all about living my dream while I was out there and I hope you can take some time to read through it. I am so blessed to be given such an opportunity and promise where ever I end up I will continue to love life and do what I can for any community I'm involved in. Thanks again!

If you can not help finically please share my blog and this link. My overall goal is to show my friends and family that dreams do come true and life is too good not to enjoy!
