Help Samantha Survive & Thrive

Y'all, we're here to talk about our loving and amazing friend Samantha Taylor. Those of you who know her, know that we're the lucky ones. For those of you who don't know her, you should know that Samantha is genuinely one of the best people I know. She has been an inspirational force in my life as a friend who shows up for the people she loves and as a friend who has helped me to reimagine what I thought were impossibilities.
Our amazing and talented friend Samantha Taylor needs our help. Samantha is a junior at Portland State University, majoring in Black Studies and Women's Studies, she is a loving cat mom, an avid crochet artist, and is a brilliant writer. Maybe you've read her essay titled, "Black Gurls and Suicide: Loving Each Other to Stay Alive" on the Black Girl Dangerous (BGD) blog?If not, you can find it here: http://www.blackgirldangerous.org/2014/04/black-gurls-suicide-loving-stay-alive/ Her essay was shared from the BDG facebook page over 134 times (that we know of!) with many folks asking how they could help financially. Recently, Samantha has experienced some financial hardship and we would like to show her some of the love and care that she has shown and continues to show so many of us.
Here's the situation: Samantha's employer recently reorganized their staffing and cut her position as a Resident Advisor in student housing, this means her rent will now increase over $500 per month, with very little notice. Additionally, she has recently needed to seek ongoing medical care for health issues and the out-of-pocket costs for things like prescriptions and copays has meant that she has fallen behind on her utilities. No one should have to chose between their health and keeping their lights on, while knowing there isn't enough money for either.
This is where we come in! Our friend and cherished community member needs us, like yesterday. Each dollar we give ensures that Samantha is supported in her basic needs, her continued education, and overall health and wellness. If everyone who shared her BGD essay on Facebook donated $15, we'd reach more than our goal. We know that some of you reading this might already have Samantha's Gmail address, we want to let you know that by using that email you can donate directly to her personal PayPal account via the PayPal website. We were thinking that if a few folks did this in addition to the continued fundraising here, then Samantha would have access to funds to help sustain her until we reach the goal.
Thank you for your donation, it is much needed and appreciated!
