Help Jake beat Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer

Donation protected

PLEASE DONATE WHAT YOU CAN TO HELP POOR JAKE.

We have set up this page to raise money for the most amazing special boy, our nephew Jake who is only 8 years old and battling Stage 4 cancer.
This will be used to support the family so they can be around for Jake as Dad is self employed and Mum can't work. This will also be used to fund any private treatment should Jake's current treatment not go to plan. Jake will also use some of this money to create memories like days out when he is well enough.

He has sadly been diagnosed with extensive bulky Hodgkin's Lymphoma in May 2021, basically the worst diagnosis for this type of Cancer he could get.

This means that poor Jake had so much cancer in his body the consultant was shocked Jake could still manage his day to day tasks. Jake also has what's called "Bulky" disease this means he had a huge mass in his stomach the size of a 500ml coke bottle.

We are all devasted that Jake has this especially his Mum and Dad. They said its like a tornado came and ripped through their lives. They are such strong people but this has really steam rollered all over them. They continue to be strong for him but it really is a battle for all of them but most of all precious Jake.

Jake is such a kind, caring lovely boy who likes roblox, his trampoline, swimming and playing with his friends. He is a shy boy at first but when you get to know him you will see he is so funny and can be very cheeky.

He has been through so much already and we want to help him and his parents by trying to raise some money to help them through this horrendous time.

The tears, disappointments and worries he has faced so far we would not wish on anyone especially a child. The money raised will help Jake to make some amazing lasting memories when he is going through the worst time of his life.

It will also help with any medical equipment he needs, travel costs to the hospital 40 minutes away, parking and lots of other extra costs incurred by the family. It will help towards the financial strain currently being faced by his parents where Dad has been taking time off work to be there for him and also stop the pressure for Dad to have to leave him when he's sick and want him home. He's a real Daddy's boy!

This will also be used to fund extra treatment/private treatment should poor Jakey need it.

PLEASE HELP OUR LITTLE TROOPER.

PLEASE DONATE WHAT YOU CAN. HOWEVER BIG OR SMALL IT ALL HELPS JAKE AND HIS FAMILY.

We could not be more thankful for any support that is provided. This is the BIGGEST battle of Jakes life and we are trying to make it the as bearable as we can for our Little Trooper.

Any money left at the end after Jake recovers will be given to various charities and hospitals that have helped Jake along the way.

We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous donations

Jake's journey so far:
Jake recently had a big move from Wales to England in October 2020 with his Mum & Dad. As Jake was born in Wales this was a massive life change for him before this nightmare even happened. We were happy to see he settled in to his new home and school very well.

Unfortunately things took a down turn for Jake in February 2021. Before the doctors discovered he had cancer, Jake's Mum noticed he was more tired and he had a slightly yellow skin tone. The doctors referred him to the Paediatricians and they found he was anaemic. He was put on iron medication. His stomach also felt a bit backed up like he was constipated so they gave him medication for that too.

Not long after Jakes Mum started to notice he was losing his appetite and over a few weeks was losing weight. Jakes parents initially thought that this was due to his iron medication as it can alter taste buds and cause you to feel sick.
Jake was on the initial iron medication for 7 weeks as they were hoping the side effects he was experiencing would calm down, but it never did.
After speaking with the doctors they prescribed him a different iron medication that did help slightly with his appetite but even though he was eating a bit more, he was still losing weight and was starting to look quite skinny.

Jake's s Mum rang the paediatrician and told him he had lost a lot of weight, but he was not concerned as his weight on the scales had not changed since the last time he seen him. He advised that if Jakes weight reduced on the scales for Mum to contact Jakes GP. Jakes Mum and Dad were very concerned as although it hadn't changed on the scales he looked very drastically thinner.

A couple weeks later in April 2021, Jake still hadn't lost weight on the scales but was now starting to look very skinny. By this point Jake was getting so tired and out of breath from walking, he could only go a little way and he would have to sit down. He couldn't even to walk up a small hill so Dad needed to carry him as he simply did not have the energy. His anaemia was still getting worse and Jake now had a noticeable yellow colour to him and his eyes now had even darker circles around them. He was also going to sleep straight after dinner as he was so tired.

Jake's parents tried to get Jake an appointment with the GP, but this never happened as they advised Jake needed to be seen by Paediatrics as he was under their care. In the end Jake's Mum managed to book herself a face to face GP appointment with a different doctor, knowing it wasn't for her. She used it to show the GP pictures of Jakes extreme weight loss and colouring to his skin. This doctor acted straight away and arranged a blood test to be carried out ASAP.

When Jake had his blood test in hospital they discovered that his haemoglobin (which is red blood cells that contains iron cells that carries oxygen around the body) they found that his level was only 70! A normal range for a child is around 120, this showed that he needed to have a blood transfusion. They also gave him a chest X-ray straight after his blood test.

Jake was admitted that day into QA children's ward. They had found from his bloods that he had CRP level of 249; C-Reactive Protein is produced when there is inflammation or infection within the body, a normal level is under 3. This was very alarming. They checked him for sepsis and was so high, but none was found.

The following day the hospital carried out a series of tests on Jake, and his Mum and Dad was told the devastating news they believed Jake had Cancer!
Up to this point, this was not even a thought that anyone had considered, and as anyone can imagine this shocked the whole family.

Jake was then transferred to a specialised Cancer Ward in Southampton University Hospital, were they continued to carry out more tests. These confirmed Jake in fact had stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma with a bulky mass within his belly of around 500ml (roughly 12 cm’s). The Cancer was also found in his lungs and other various organs in his chest and abdomen.

Poor Jake had to have a golf ball size lymph node taken out for biopsy and 2 needles injected in to his bone to take samples. He also had a central venous line fitted for his chemo to go in to. This sits in his veins and comes out his body under his arm. When he woke he was in so much pain he was terrified. His parents felt helpless.

Due to extensive spread of the Cancer and size of the bulky mass, Jake has just started under going 6 months of very intense chemotherapy. He will most likely also need radiotherapy in London.

From the minute Jake was admitted into hospital, poor little Jakes life has completely been turned upside down. Each day bringing him new worries and scary battles to face, tears and disappointments. He has hardly been home with his home comforts and also been taken out of school. He has hardly seen his family, nor seen his friends. Worst of all is Jake does not fully understand what Cancer is. As adults we all fear the word, but as a child they generally not know what or how serious it is. So even though Jake was not sure what Cancer was, Dad explained to him that there was a bad bully in his body that they all need to fight and get rid of. Jake has been so brave and through each treatment, test or challenge he is being put up against, he is keeping his brave face on. He is trying to get through it with the loving help and support from not just his parents that are doing Amazing, but also the support of his whole family. They could not be more supportive and proud of him during this scary and challenging time. Jake is now known as the family's "Little Trooper".

After Jake started with his chemotherapy he has been suffering with excruciating migraines, vomiting and bad pains through his body. He has been poked, prided and opened up. He has stayed in hospital so many times. Even though poor little Jake is going through all this, he some how manages to still be the most loving, polite little boy. He tries to take it all within his stride as hard as it is and without question, does everything that the doctors ask of him without any fuss.
