Johnathan Shillingford was born in the Commonwealth of Dominica to an Engineer/Agriculturist father and Cosmetologist/Entrepreneur mother. By the age of 6 he displayed a keen interest in the assembly of parts to form a whole; putting together his Lego and Mechano kits in a dash.
Johnathan relocated to Antigua with his parents while still very young, where his educational foundation was set at the Island Academy International School. He graduated Valedictorian, Best Art Student, and Best Science Student in 2008. With the support of his parents and teachers, he went on to pursue his dream to become an Architect at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago USA, at just 17 years old.
Since May 2013, Johnathan's Bachelor of Architecture degree has afforded him the qualification to gain experience in the field, working as an Intern Architect at AgenceTER, Paris.
Johnathan believes that his next professional step will be to attend a reputable graduate school program and subsequently spent the past months improving his architectural portfolio and aggressively sending applications [please review CV + Portfolio here]. You can imagine his excitement then, when he was offered a position by The Architectural Association School of Architecture, to attend the DRL MArch program, one of the world's most prestigious institutions of architecture and a global meeting point for architecture and urbanism in London.
Financially exhausted from the costs of his undergraduate education, Johnathan is sympathetically seeking your sponsorship in whatever capacity you can manage. Be it a small donation, or monthly commitment, whatever your contribution may be, it will be received humbly and with mammoths of appreciation.
The AA's 16 month MArch in Architecture and Urbanism program for the 2014/2015 academic intake to begin in September 2014 tuition cost is £30,683 [$51,600 USD, €37,240 EUR]. In addition to your help, Johnathan is negotiating a student loan, personal loan, and academic scholarships to make this dream a possibility.
