Virna's Gender Reassignment Surgery

After seven years of contemplating gender reassignment surgery at age 49 Virna is ready to act. On August 27th 2018 Virna, professional makeup artist and animal rights and welfare activist will undergo surgery here in NYC.
Both as a makeup artist and volunteer animal care worker Virna is on her feet for long hours every day but after the surgery Virna will be on bed rest for one month and unable to return to work for three months.
To top it off December when she will be able to return to work is her slowest month of the year.
Virna has been part of the downtown art community since 1993, part of the Jackie 60 Family and a support person for many downtown artists. Now it is time for us to show what community means and support Virna at this critical and crucial time.
Virna will need nursing help after she leaves hospital to deal with dressings etc as she lives alone with her 19 year old cat Cicciottina
(Chee-Chow-Tina) Following surgery she will not be able to do the simplest household tasks. In searching for information on the actual surgery and its side effects and healing process, Virna found there was virtually nothing explicit and informative available. Virna plans to change that with a publicly available hand book after her transition.
Meanwhile we are raising $12.000 to assist and support Virna's recovery costs . Virna will post frequent updates giving us all a real look into what this life changing process entails.
