Being the runt of the litter is never easy, but Little Butters couldn't have made it look any better. He was born almost completely blind in the left eye and used the vision he did have in his right eye to live a completely normal and happy life.
On April 24, Butters was involved in an altercation with a larger dog over scattered cat food and as chance would have it, the only place the other dog actually bit down was directly into his good eye. The dog who bit him is very timid, has never shown any signs of agression previously & acted purely out of instinct.
The owner drove us to an emergercy clinic and then to an eye specialist, where the doctor explained that there was one major puncture and one minor puncture of his cornea. The good news at that point is that the wound wasn't open, but the likelihood of him regaining vision in the eye was slim if any and she recomended that it be removed.
Even moments after the incident happened, our boy remained very calm. He sat in the car normally, didn't flinch during his exams and did well to let me know he wasn't dying. I gotta be honest, him not freaking out really kept me from freaking the f*ck out! After some pain meds, he was cool as a cucumber, but as the night went on we really saw just how bad the injury to his eye was. And after two calls to the 24hr emergency doctor about it's worsening condition, we knew what had to be done.
The outpouring of support we've gotten from all of you has been amazing and has gone a long way to keep our heads up over the roughest day in the history of our little family. And because we know so many of you who love our littly boy, we're humbly asking you to help us put a dent in the nearly $2,000 bill for his treatment over the past couple of days and his follow-ups over the next few weeks.
As I type this, he's in recovery from his surgery and we're looking forward to starting this new chapter in his and our lives. We're 110% committed to giving our boy the best possible quality of life from here on out and any help getting us there would be infinitely appreciated.
