Help Tracy beat anxiety and go to Fargo

Donation protected
Tracy dreams of a life of adventure, of community, of living! Annoyingly, anxiety keeps getting in the way.

A fun story...
Every time Tracy wants to leave the house this robot, The Robot of Mediocrity, fights her to stay in and stay boring. He uses his not-so-secret weapon, anxiety. When he places the Hat of Anxiety on Tracy's head she often retreats back inside.

But not this time! This time, Tracy plans to embrace the anxiety and take it with her all the way to Fargo, USA! But she can only do this if her support worker goes with her... and that means more than twice the costs.

With a serious message...
Tracy is a true misfit but it's often masked by her anxiety and her learning difficulties. She is a DJ, onesie wearing world changer who has an incredible ability to listen quietly and then come out with the wisest new idea or summary. She does everything she can to use this superpower to make the world better and when she embraces her anxiety and gets out in the world, her impact is incredible.

However, Tracy keeps getting stuck. Tracy is a member of our team over at You Can Hub and she struggles with anxiety more than most. She's been part of the team since we were founded in 2011 and her contributions in our efforts to help others make the impossible possible have been awesome; however her struggles have meant that she hasn't always been able to attend our meetings and hasn't had the same opportunities as other team members.

Tracy wants to make a positive impact on the world, create her own dent with a ripple effect. Like many of us, she's still trying to figure out how and what she wants to do to make that dent.... How can she possibly do this without getting out of the house, trying different things and exploring? She is stuck in her anxiety.

That's about to change. We are confident that if Tracy can just make it to Fargo, she will be a few bricks closer to breaking down that wall and creating her own amazing dent in the world. By going to the Misfit Conference in Fargo she will not only be proving something to herself but will also come back with incredibly wise and unique insights to share with the community. We expect her to come back from Fargo inspired and fired up with new ideas to change the world in her own unique ways.

Often, people like Tracy are forgotten about at events like this. People who have disabilities, learning difficulties, and mental health challenges. They are overlooked in the invitation process and their additional needs mean that organisers and attendees usually inadvertently exclude this community. So, a big part of Tracy attending #MisfitCon2014 is that she is reminding people that she and others like her exist and can give an immense amount of value to these communities. Tracy is a trailblazer!

Tracy is not alone in her anxiety, though it often seems like it. Did you know that 'more than 1 in 10 people are likely to have a 'disabling anxiety disorder' at some stage in there life?' (Ehlers, A. "˜Anxiety disorders: Challenging negative thinking.') This could be you, or a family member, or a friend. It's often an invisible disability with much stigma attached. For Tracy, alongside her learning difficulties, her anxiety is visible in her breathing, walking, and communication.

Tracy is heading off to Fargo, North Dakota for her first trip to the states, a trip that sees her heading to a one-of-a-kind conference to bring back the learning and inspiration to share with her team and help us create more impact. It's a journey she couldn't have even contemplated six months ago. She's excited and ready, there's just one thing we need help with; Tracy needs support to travel with her to the conference, and that makes things expensive.

Can you imagine the limitations if you had to pay someone to support you every time you wanted to leave the house?

What Tracy has:
With support from her friends over at The You Can Hub, Tracy has managed to pay for her ticket, flights and accommodation. Pretty good right?!

So what does she need funding for then?
Tracy's anxiety and learning difficulties impact her so much that she can not go out on her own. So, Tracy needs some help to pay for a support worker to go with her on this life changing experience. She needs an arm to hold, encouraging words, and someone to lift some of the anxiety weight from her. It costs Tracy over twice as much as anyone else to get to this incredible event in Fargo. Please help to meet this extra cost, so that it's not a barrier to her taking part! The cost of this support...£1500.

When is Tracy going?
28th May - 2nd June 2014

Why Fargo?
Tracy has the rare opportunity to attend #MisfitCon2014, a two day event where only 60 people from around the world come together to share stories, tips and tools about how they live life with intention and do things that truly matter. Attendees look to to learn and take courage from each other, encouraging each other to overcome hurdles and bring their awesomeness to the world. This is exactly what Tracy needs right now to embrace her hurdle, anxiety, and be incredible.

Recovery begins when you 'reach a point where you control your anxiety rather than the anxiety controlling you and affecting your quality of life' (www.anxietyuk.org.uk). For Tracy, going to Fargo is her way of taking back control of her anxiety.

Who is Mel Findlater and why has she created this page?
Mel is me! I work over at The You Can Hub, where we help people make their impossibles possible, turn can't into can. That is exactly what I am doing by helping Tracy embrace her anxiety and get to Fargo. Tracy has worked with us to create this video and page for her, she is part of it every step of the way but like going to Fargo, she does need support..so here we are!

Let's all join together to beat anxiety!
