It Takes a Village - Supporting Liam

Donation protected
Liam has had a number of health problems in the past year, and while it looks like we are finally close to getting some answers and the support we need during what has been an exhausting and even scary time, it has taken a drastic and unexpected toll on our already precarious monetary situation.

We are still close to $1500 in debt for a procedure last Fall and my job switched us to a high deuctable insurance plan at the beginning of this year.  None of his current specialists are in-network or take insurance which means we are paying out of pocket until we reach a REALLY high deductable (since a single parent and child is considered the same as the larger "family plan" in the eyes of this particular insurance company.)  Current medical expenses average $900/month.

So where are we at now?: in a pickle. I've run through my HSA, every bit of those precious tax returns, and, most upsettingly, the bit of money I'd managed to save.  Right now there just isn't any more money, save what's in my weekly paycheck.  And no amount of new prints or pies I make and sell will make up for the second job (online) I had to quit so I could spend more time with Liam in the evenings as he works his way through this.

So, it comes to this:  can you help us?  You can see the general catagories of monetary need below, but we can also use clothes for this ever expanding boy, a new-to-him bike for this growing boy, food for the adorable garbage disposal of a teenage boy, invites out, and acceptance of our invites, too!  Really, any little bit or thing will help.

In return here's what we're doing to help ourselves:

1. We've switched monitoring and prescribing of Liam's medication to his pediatrician now that we are fairly certain the current combination works and does not produce any severe short or long term side effects, like those he experienced last Fall. We are still at the beginning of this change and, while it's already saved us tons onf money in monthly specialists' bills, there is a small chance we will have to switch back to higher cost doctors if the current combination of physician plus pro-bono therapy doesn't work.

2. We've engaged a sliding scale CPT based therapist that provides the specific services and help and connection we think Liam requires. Again, this has saved us some significant costs, but the jury is still our on whether or not we've found the right person.  Any leads you may have on a CPT based male therapist who accepts insurance, provides pro-bono consultation, or offer sliding scale services and is well versed in counseling young adults with ADD, in addition to anxiety/depression and some abandonment issues, would be most helpful.

3. I am researching options for changing Liam to his own insurance plan under the Affordable Care Act.  While we would not be able to make the switch until next January, it is possible that there is a plan out there that would cover more of his medication expenses and we might be able to begin the new year with a little less on our plates and some breathing room.  Breathing is good.  I do a lot of it these days.  So is dancing.  So is sillines.  We do that, too.  See?:

Thanks for whatever you can do to support this little bug, who is now not so little, but still my bug.

With love and gratitude,

Gina and Liam
