The Santa Ana 3

Donation protected
On Sunday, December 6, 2020, Trump supporters arrived in the city of Santa Ana, CA to protest Trump’s presidential loss. While repeatedly using explicit and degrading language, the group of Trumpsters blocked traffic and sexually harassed women and youth.

Prior to arriving, Trump supporters posted videos and messages on social media, boasting about having a rally in a predominately Latinx city.

Making their way to a local Big 5 store, three Santa Ana men (“the Santa Ana 3”) suddenly found themselves in the middle of a group of Trump supporters. As soon as these men overheard the way people were getting harassed, the Trump supporters started taunting them and waving flags in their faces. As the Santa Ana 3 tried to maintain a safe distance from the Trump supporters, they were followed and continually attacked. The three men told them to back off without knowing that this simple statement would trigger the Trumpsters to escalate the situation and become more physically violent. As you can see in the video a person named “Ethan” began to violently kick them. The three men had no other option but to defend themselves as well as other Santanerxs, who are already often marginalized by racist systems.

The Santa Ana 3 were quickly attacked by the Trump supporters.

Not only were the Santa Ana 3 out-numbered by around 20 Trumpsters, they were also blindsided by the high amount of pepper spray that doused them entirely.  They were repeatedly kicked, stabbed with poles and pepper sprayed by three to four different individuals. The Santa Ana 3 were left with stab wounds to their heads, injuries to their arms and hands as well as large bruises throughout their body.  One of the perpetrators, Marco Alcaraz from Garden Grove, is seen pepper spraying victims an using a German Shepperd to incite fear. As they were trying to defend themselves from the racist Trumpsters, the Santa Ana Police Department watched the three men undergo a physical attack from across the street and only intervened once they were wounded and pepper-sprayed. As the police approached the scene, witnesses pointed the finger to the perpetrators, the Trumpsters who had incited the violence, nevertheless law enforcement proceeded to do the unimaginable and detained the three men who, from their bloodied faces, were clearly the victims of a racist assault.

Upon closer inspection of the video taken by a witness, one can clearly see that at the beginning of the video, a police car in the parking lot across the street watching the entire altercation. A Santa Ana police sergeant sat in the car and did nothing to protect the three men from being viciously attacked. Instead, he ordered his officers to handcuff the victims, further traumatizing and humiliating them. The Santa Ana 3 requested medical care, however, the officers ignored their requests and forced them to wait with pepper spray in their eyes and wounds on their heads. One of the victims notified the detaining officer that he had an injury to his arm, however, the officer showed no mercy which caused his injuries to be further exacerbated. The officers then graciously engaged the Trump supporters and made no attempts to take notes for a report or to obtain witness information, even after being informed that the entire altercation was recorded by witnesses at the scene. The Trump supporters knew they were being recorded and did not care.

After a long wait, the Santa Ana 3 were finally transported by paramedics to South Coast Global Medical Center. They were dropped off with no information given by paramedics or the police to the hospital staff. The receptionist at the hospital was quick to instruct the 3 men to urinate in cups in order to be treated. Feeling defeated the Santa Ana 3 left the hospital untreated.

This is a typical case of racial profiling that the Santa Ana Police Department has a long record of committing. Had the police interviewed the Trump supporters they would have found that these people are part of an organized White Supremacist group (yes includes people of color who oppress other people of color) that travels throughout the state of California, viciously terrorizing communities of color, similar to Santa Ana. Just last month in Bakersfield, CA, a similar incident took place and two of the Trumpsters had previous arrests due to sexual crimes.    https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=680842615913256&set=pcb.680842682579916

Joe Vargas, one of the Trumpsters, is seen in one of the videos sexually harassing young girls (link above).

Another Trump supporter was Mrs. Nancy Horn, a kindergarten teacher at Henninger Elementary School in the Santa Ana Unified School District, where the demographic make up is almost 100% Latinx students.  https://www.facebook.com/santaanastandsup/photos/a.1502704423133866/4580567972014147/

SAPD should have done their job to serve and protect the Santa Ana community instead of pandering to these individuals and their racist agendas.

As a result of this altercation where SAPD failed to properly respond, one of the men lost his job as he was too injured to return to work. Another went to work with injuries to his head and has not received medical care since he does not have insurance. The third man, also with injuries, is having difficulty caring for his wife and child with disabilities.

We cannot let the Santa Ana 3 down. They stood up for us all! We ask if you can support:

1) By donating (any amount helps)

2) By sharing their story

3) By coming out next time Trump supporters try to show up in your town, especially here in Santa Ana! Or by supporting/linking up with local grassroots organizers to challenge the oppressive systems these Trumpsters uphold.
