Donation protected
As a culmination of the John Dibert Seventh Grade Outdoor Experience, we are taking a group of 55 scholars to camp overnight on the Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. This trip will build responsibility, respect, and indepence among our young outdoor enthusiasts.
The mission of the Outdoor Education Program at John Dibert Community School is help build a love and appreciation of the wilderness in young adults who don't have much experience in this area. The program also seeks to foster positive relationships amongst scholars.
Highlights of our 2013-2014 Outdoor Education Program include:
- A half-day hike in City Park, New Orleans, LA
- An overnight camping trip to Fountainbleau State Park, Mandeville, LA. Scholars were completely responsible for building camp, gathering firewood, and cooking all meals. They also were able to swim, fish and canoe in Lake Pontchartrain, and also enjoyed a midnight hike. These opportunities built a culture of risk-taking, responsibility, and teamwork that we would like to continue to develop in our young adults at JDCS.
