Jogging for Jeffrey

Jeffrey’s Diagnosis and Why We are Jogging for Jeffrey On October 31, 2013, Jeffrey was officially diagnosed with Autism at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis. In case you don't know, Autism is a mental condition that causes Jeffrey to get overwhelmed with too much sensory input (i.e. large crowds, new environments, a change in routine).
He has trouble communicating, making eye contact and reacting to certain situations in a way that we all might be accustomed to. Instead of letting his mom or dad know that he's uncomfortable, he might isolate himself, flap his hands repeatedly, or fixate on a small item such as a car or train. The older Jeffrey gets, the more prevalent these behaviors become.
The good news is and many of us are unaware that there are therapies that have been developed that can retrain Jeffrey's brain.

He is very high functioning and is extremely smart. He will most likely excel academically, but he will have trouble interacting with his classmates in school and may react in a disruptive and inappropriate manner. There is a therapy that exists called ABA (applied behavior analysis) that could really help Jeffrey. Research has shown that intense therapy before the age of 5 has not only helped autistic children, but many have fallen off of the autism spectrum altogether. There are several cases that have had this result, but many people are unaware that these therapies exist and insurance companies are just recently starting to cover some of the costs.
There is a very progressive facility in Evansville, Indiana
called Lifesong. It is the only place that uses ABA, but it is very costly. With this therapy, Jeffrey has a chance of leading a perfectly normal life and becoming very successful both professionally and personally. Jeffrey's insurance will cover a very small portion of this cost. Our goal as a family is to raise money to help pay for the cost of Jeffrey’s therapy and to also raise Autism awareness. Jeffrey is a happy, bright child and we want to make sure we do everything in our power to help him lead a successful and happy life!
In addition to helping with our fundraising efforts we appreciate any of your prayers, support, and encouragement!
