Fight Like A Girl-Shannon Strahan

Donation protected
The New Year is all about new beginnings and hope for a bright future. 2018 held so many new promises for Shannon. The biggest being her August wedding to the love of her life, Brent. Over the past 2 years Brent and his two children have become, Shannon’s family. In August it was going to be official. But 2018 had different plans for them. On New Year’s Day, Shannon, found a lump on her breast. She saw her doctor on January 4th, and after an ultrasound, mammogram, and biopsy she had a diagnosis. Cancer. At 27 years old Shannon had stage 2 invasive ductal adenocarcinoma. A hormone positive cancer with chek2 genetic mutation. On February 13th she underwent a double mastectomy. Test results lead them to believe she does not need chemo right now, but this type of cancer feeds off of hormones and can potentially return in other parts of the body. In an attempt to prevent this, Shannon, must take an anti-hormone pill. The recommendation is to take this for 5 years. This means they must wait 5 years to have a child together and add to their family. 2018 has turned out to be anything but what Shannon and Brent expected. They are so strong and so thankful to have each other through this fight. Unfortunately, the emotion and physical struggles aren’t the only struggles they have to face. Medical bills and loss of income have hit hard, and Shannon still has another surgery to undergo. The money they were planning to spend on their wedding has to go to medical expenses, so they must now postpone the wedding. Many would be devastated to have to postpone these major life events, but they are using all their energy to fight and beat this. They need their focus on the battle, not the financial stress.
