Kylie's Journey
Don protégé
On May 16th, Kylie was admitted to the Neuro ICU and put on life support after being diagnosed with severe bacterial meningitis and sepsis. Over the next six weeks, she fought on and off for her life, almost died twice, had multiple strokes, and was in 4 different hospitals. Kylie had undergone two surgeries during this time and finally came home on July 7th after being in rehab.
Due to a horrible mistake at one of the hospitals she was in, Kylie had to have multiple tracheostomies placed, which caused significant damage and scarring in her trachea. Due to that, she had to have five more surgeries before what was supposed to be the last one.
On 9/8 she was supposed to have what was to be her final surgery to correct the problem. She went in for a Trachea Resection and was only supposed to be hospitalized for five days. Due to unforeseen complications, Kylie was again placed on life support in the ICU for over five weeks. During this time, she required three more surgeries. Her mom stayed with her the entire time while her dad was there when he could due to work.
On 10/14 Kylie was transferred back to rehab, which she needed again due to the strain this all had on her body and losing so much muscle.
Within one week, she was transported back to the hospital by the Critical Care team for another surgery. This time her vocal cord was sutured to the side of her throat due to it being paralyzed from the strokes.
On 11/8 Kylie went in for another surgery to help stretch her trachea due to some narrowing at the scar where her trachea was resectioned, and also have her left vocal cord trimmed to help her be able to breathe better. What was supposed to be an outpatient stay ended up with another ICU stay with Kylie on life support. Thankfully this one only lasted two weeks. At this time, the doctor decided to place a Montgomery T-Tube. This tube is basically like a stent helping to hold Kylie's trachea open in hopes that it will completely heal over the next 3-6 months.
Since this happened, Kylie has been unable to work, and her mom has exhausted her vacation and PTO time.
They have had multiple expenses with lodging, food, medical bills, travel expenses, and lost wages. This is just a short version of everything Kylie has had to go through during this time.
If you can help in any way, they will be forever thankful and grateful!
Thank you all!
