Love For Luis

On Thursday September 27th, our friend Luis Zuniga suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, a burst blood vessel in the brain. He was taken to the emergency room where he was immediately flown to UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco. He underwent emergency surgery to repair the blood vessel and release the pressure from the blood leaking onto his brain. After Luis was hospitalized his immune system was so compromised that he contracted pneumonia. On Monday October 8th he underwent a tracheotomy and has yet to regain consciousness. Luis remains in critical condition at UCSF where he will be admitted as an in-patient for an undetermined amount of time. He has a very long road ahead of him even after being released from the hospital.
Luis and his wife Reyna are very kind hearted people with a large family including two young children that all love him and depend on him very much. They are active members of their church and community, whether it’s cooking in the park for over a hundred people or picking one friend up for a ride home. The immense physical, emotional, and financial toll this is taking on the family is devastating. Reyna is commuting to San Francisco multiple time per week from Ukiah, this is very hard for her as Luis is the main source of income. We might not be able to help Luis physically but by donating we can take some of the financial burden off of Reyna which in turn will alleviate some of the physical and emotional stress.

El jueves 27 de Septiembre, nuestro amigo Luis sufrió un derrame cerebral hemmorrágico, un vaso sanguíneo reventado en el cerebro. Lo llevaron al hospital y lo llevaron en avión al centro médico de UCSF en San Francisco. Se sometió a una cirugía de emergencia para reparar el vaso sanguíno y liberar la presión de la sangre que se filtraba en su cerebro. Después de que Luis fue hospitalizado su sistema inmunológico estaba tan comprometido que contrajo neumonía. El Lunes 8 de octubre se sometió traqueotomí y aún no ha recuperado la conciencia. Luis permanece en estado crítico en UCSF, donde será admitido por un período de tiempo indeterminado.
Luis y su esposa Reyna son personas muy amables con una familia numerosa, incluidos dos niños pequeños que lo aman y dependen de él. Son miembros activos de su iglesia y comunidad, ya sea para cocinar en la parque para cientos de personas o para que lo lleve a casa. El inmenso costo físico, emocional y financiero que está afectando a la familia es devastador. Reyna viaja a San Francisco varias veces por semana desde ukiah, esto es muy difícil porque Luis es la principal fuente de ingresos. Al donar, podemos quitar parte de la carga financiera de Reyna, lo que ayudará a aliviar parte del estrés físico y emocional.
