Our friend Darren is facing months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Unfortunately, our current social support system has no financial support in place for those fighting long term illnesses such as Cancer beyond his statutory sick pay of two week full pay and four weeks half pay.
The family have been told they can apply for other benefits such as disablement or injury but they are not guaranteed nor do the quantities even come close to a wage that would contribute to supporting two small boys.
This has been a devastating time for this young family made even harder by financial hardship.
Gibraltar’s GDP per Capita is currently ranked third in the world, behind Qatar and Luxembourg yet unbelievably we have no financial support for long term sickness cases such as these, hopefully we can raise enough money to cover a minimum wage salary for the months that Darren is off work fighting his Cancer.
