Omar Medical Fund

Donation protected

Some of you may already know Omar's story. In short; he's a survivor.

When I rescued him, he had been run over by a car, was scheduled to be euthanized(!), and he had to have surgery on his hip and get a replacement hip (FHO).  I've  shared more about his story on twitter, and am more than happy to share more about him if you're interested.

The other part of his story I'd like to briefly mention is how much he's meant to me, and how much he's improved the quality of my life.  I'm so afraid of this being the end, but I want to make him as comfortable as possible.  And right now, I can’t do that.

I’m asking for $7,500 to cover the emergency vet bills from two visits, medication, and the cost of an endoscopy procedure.

Any help by sharing or donating is greatly appreciated, and I thank you all for even caring.

TL;DR:

Recently, I had to rush Omar to the emergency vet for a life-threatening symptom - blood in the urine. And I don’t mean a little blood — it was all blood. Since it was thought to be a severe UTI, he was sent home with me. That was $800.

However, new symptoms appeared. He was vomiting multiple times a day and couldn’t keep anything down.

I had to rush him back and he stayed for 24 hours. This visit and the meds cost roughly $2,700, bringing the total thus far to about $3,500.

At this time, we do not have a diagnosis, but lymphoma is a possible, likely even, diagnosis. The vet recommends an endoscopy following the discoveries made in the second visit. The endoscopy will cost between $4,000 and $5,000 - and that does not include treatment.

This endoscopy will tell us what treatment he needs. He could have lymphoma and need mild chemo, or he could need prednisone for the rest of his life. We just don’t know. Cats can live many years with lymphoma and I am hoping you can help me pay for this testing so we can find out, treat him properly, and he can be comfortable and happy for years to come.

TL;DRer:

We thought Omar had a really bad UTI but that wasn’t definitive; I spent a bunch of money on that, he got sicker, I then spent $3,500 at emergency vet, and it turns out he has some kind of chronic GI issue and needs an endoscopy to find out what.

Visit 1: $800
Visit 2: $2,700
Treatment needed: $4,000-$5,000

IF YOU MADE IT THIS FAR (or even if you did not):

Your help would mean the world to me and Omar and will, quite literally, improve my quality of life by keeping healthy and safe with me.  Thank you for reading and considering and if you're able, thank you so much for donating and/or sharing.  I'm incredibly grateful and indebted.  I'm happy to send anyone great pics of him or answer questions upon request.

Many thanks,
kate and omar
