Hello all!
BOTH of our "wicked smaht" children are part of the Destination Imagination (DI) program. DI is a non-profit, volunteer-led, organization. Its purpose is to inspire and equip Maggie and Teddy to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. www.destinationimagination.org.

The program is Challenge-based, and it teaches the creative process from imagination to innovation. The goal is to help my little nose-miners learn to be creative in every aspect of their lives.
At the start of the season, their teams chose one of seven Challenges. Both Maggie and Teddy's team chose the Improvisational Challenge. Possessing limited prior knowledge of what they would be presented with (situations, characters, makeup, time period in history) they had to make it all work. Why? It's Pandemonium! They had to:
- Create an original five-minute Improvisational skit
- Develop the interaction between a character from the past and a contemporary character.
- Show how those characters work, using the time period, their occupations and skills, to deal with Pandemonium (a random unknown "problem" such as coins falling from the sky or everyone having to ride bicyles as their constant form of transportation).
- Use stage makeup to create, develop, and/or enhance one skit character.
After weeks spent creating, developing and practicing their solutions, they went to a local tournament, advanced to a state tournament and now both have excelled to the Global Finals"”the world's largest celebration of creativity that takes place at the University of Tennesse in Knoxville, TN on May 21-24, 2014!
....and this is where I ask for you to part with your abundant riches! The registration/lodging/food per person is $700 (Ted, Mag and I=$2,100) which does NOT include our travel and incidental costs. Yes, my kids are brilliant, but I wish I had been born obscenely rich instead of soooo good looking so I could fund this trip out of the spare money I found in my couch cushions-HA!
Any amount you can give is absolutely appreciated. No amount is too small. Who knows? You could be funding the next genius that FINALLY invents the flying car we've been hearing about for decades!
Thank you so much for your help and caring.
Love,
James, Kara, Maggie Annette and Theodore James
