Help Robin Fight Cancer

Donation protected
Firstly, our family would like to thank everyone for the outpour of love and support. It is difficult to find the words to express the overwhelming gratitude we feel.

This battle has been so trying and scary, and while we’ve remained hopeful throughout, its hard not to feel discouraged at times. But today, we received some pretty incredible news. Mom’s largest mass has decreased from 9 centimeters to 2.3. It’s not a clean bill of health, and it’s not remission, but it is a glimmer of hope, and we couldn’t be happier to have that.

We are so grateful for good news of any capacity, but unfortunately the weight of this diagnosis has not been lifted. A few updates about the family: Natalie has permanently relocated to Philadelphia, Elise, who is able to work remotely, spends most of her time there, and Jonathan travels back and forth from LA as much as his work schedule allows. Robin’s sister, Kat, has been with her since her diagnosis. And while Robin is still unable to work, her medical expenses continue to mount.

Unfortunately, we’ve let the donation page fall by the wayside in the midst of dealing with both the cancer and the trials and tribulations of treatment.  The money we’ve raised so far has been a tremendous help to our family. It has helped to keep us afloat for the last several months but the funds are nearly depleted. We ask that you continue to share our story and if you are able, please donate.

Again, words cannot express our unwavering gratitude for everyone who has donated and helped us share our mom’s story. Your ongoing support means everything to us.

Love,
The Coyne Collection

Three months ago, our mom was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer. By the time we found out, her only option was to begin chemotherapy immediately.  She is not able to work, and believing she had a long life ahead of her, she hadn’t planned financially for something so sudden, horrifying, and unfortunately so expensive. Her husband is disabled and is also unable to work. Between her medical expenses, their mortgage, and the cost of running their home, what little savings they have will be gone in a matter of months.

My two siblings and I are splitting our time in shifts between our homes in Los Angeles and Philadelphia to care for her.  We keep urging her not to concern herself with costs and to focus on fighting for her life, but we can’t assure her without support from friends, family, or even people who may not know our mom personally but have experienced the emotional and financial turmoil cancer takes on patients and their families.

If you have met Robin, however, there’s no question that she’s left an impression on you.  We have watched our mother literally give a homeless woman the coat off her back in a snowstorm.

When her father was murdered in 1996, she took to the community for fundraising. She wrote and directed plays for the towns’s children and used the ticket money to put together a reward for information about the person responsible for his death. After several years, when the murderer was never identified, she gave that money back to the community. She gave all those children, including my siblings and me, a voice of our own, inspiration, and courage.

She is the only person we have ever met in our lives who would drop whatever she’s doing at any moment to be there for someone she loves. Even if it’s an 800 dollar plane ride or 17 hour drive away. She has done it time and time again over the courses of our lifetimes, and to be sure, well before. And it’s so hard to have her on the other side of this situation right now. Because if she wasn't, she would be the one scraping every last penny of her own together to make sure everything was okay. To make sure whoever was sick and worried didn’t have to think for one second about not being able to cover their finances.

I could go on with a list of ways our mother is a hero. I could give you myriad instances where she has blown us away with compassion and empathy. Again, if you know her, I don’t have to do that.

We can’t believe how quickly this has all come to a head but our shocking new reality is that our mother is very sick and our family needs financial support. We are asking for donations to cover her mounting healthcare expenses. Every bit counts and we are so grateful for your compassion.

Please help us (the Coyne Kids) raise funds for our mom. We are raising the funds to help cover her healthcare in home and hospital expenses. Please understand all the funds will go directly to Robin's medical expenses to help her fight.
