Help with Medical Bills for Liam Bielawa

Liam's Story:

On Monday, March 31, my 17-year old nephew, Liam Wolf-Bielawa was struck by a large car carrier while riding his bicycle on State Road in Lancaster County. The accident was a hit and run and Liam's parent's (Dan and Susan) have been working closely with the local police department to track down the driver of the car carrier. But to date, the police haven't had much luck. Liam was admitted to the Trauma Neurosurgical Unit at Lancaster General Hospital with extensive injuries and has undergone three major surgeries to repair his neck, spine and pelvis. His ribs in his back are all broken on one side, but are expected to heal without surgery. In addition to over 30 bone fractures, Liam suffered a punctured lung, loss of one of his kidneys, and some broken front teeth. Thankfully he had no brain trauma and is able to move all of his extremities. Liam is facing a long road to recovery. He may be in the hospital for up to 6 weeks! He will undergo lengthy physical and occupational therapy. His medical costs will mount with such a long hospital stay and the follow-up physical therapy. If you are interested in helping Liam and his parents defray the cost of his growing medical bills, please consider a donation to this GoFundMe site.

Additionally, below is a link to a recent article that ran on Lancasteronline on Thursday, April 3rd. It provides additional information regarding Liam's injuries, along with information relating to the investigation and the reward being offered.

Susan, Dan, Rory, and Emory appreciate all the outpouring of love and support they've received for Liam.  Thank you!

Update (4/1814):  Liam is now at Lancaster Rehabilitation Hospital. He is working hard to regain mobility and function. He is scheduled for surgery on his pinkie finger on Tuesday. He did two lengths on the parallel bars today. Liam's appetite is still not great and Susan is trying to find foods he'll eat.  Susan and Dan thank everyone for their continued support and well wishes.

Update from Dan (5/5/14): The RETTEW family made Liam one happy boy on Friday night with a sunshine box. He immediately loaded up his phone with iTunes and we all enjoyed listening to some music. Liam is gradually increasing his therapy regimen and has been eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Last night, he asked for Taco Bell for breakfast which may sound gross, but is actually a good thing - he's starting to show interest in food again! Today, he gets the pins removed from his finger and is getting his foot checked which is giving him a lot of pain lately. One day at a time.
