Where to begin? My mother, Sandra Blyth, passed away September 30th, on her own mother's birthday. My mother's story is very heart breaking because she was such a fighter. She lived with diabetes for over 40 years, but never encoutered anything tragic due to this disease.
Back in April she had passed out and ended up breaking both of her ankles. For 110 days she was in hospitals, nursing homes, and rehab centers fighting to heal from this awful event. After going being home for 40 days, starting to walk again, she woke one day unable to breathe and landed back in the ICU to find that she was riddled with infection and became septic. All of her organs began shutting down and things looked very bleak. After 10 days she fought off the infection, was awake without the ventilator, and even started eating soft food. Less that 48 hours later, she stopped breathing which cause her heart to stop. It took them 20 minutes ro resuscitate her, but that was too long for her brain to be deprived of oxygen. The result was devastating and unbelievable. She was brain dead.
We knew she did not want to be kept alive in this state and made the difficult decision to turn off the machines and let her decide to go on her own. She maintained all her vitals for 4 hours after after the machines were turned off and waited until we left the room to leave us. May she now rest in peace and never forgotten.
My father will have a difficult time covering the expenses to put her to rest as he has not been able to work for the past couple of years. Any donation to this fund in the name of my mother, Sandra Blyth, would be so very much appreciated and always remembered. God bless you all!!!
