Joe Straub will be 60!?! (shhh)!

You are reading this because you are either a close friend, relative or both of Joe Straub's. He will be turning 60, if you can believe that, on June 1st. There was some thought about throwing him a surprise birthday party but for many reasons, mostly because it was difficult to pick a day that worked for everyone, it was decided that a party wasn't the best way to go this year. That said, I came up with an idea.
I still felt it was important to emphasize this birthday for my Dad. Sixty is surely something to celebrate and I wanted to find a unique way to still give his friends and family an opportunity to contribute to this special day for him. I can only speak for myself but it goes without saying that my Dad, Joe, has been an awesome father to me and now an incredible and exceptionally caring Grandpa to my son, Alden. He's been there for me, always, my whole life and has been the reason for so much of my happiness, confidence and laughter. It's been such a pleasure calling him Dad and watching him be such an amazing husband, friend, brother, uncle and son throughout the years. As the years go by for me, one thing that stands out the most about my Dad is his genuine kindness and willingness to help. Always there to hold a door open, lend a hand and truly just caring for so many people. It is just one of the things I cherish most about him. My dad has been such a great example of strength, courage and resilience, especially during the last several years.
So it is my hope, that through this site, you can also share a few words with Joe. Whether it's a special memory you have with him or what you appreciate the most about your relationship with my Dad. Heck, I also thought that it wouldn't be a bad idea to throw in a few bucks to give him that extra nudge to go on that dream vacation my parents have been pondering for too long! There have been talks about them going back to their favorite place in Napa or possibly even finally traveling to Europe (which I am, of course, pushing for)! Either way, I want my Dad's 60th birthday to be memorable and extra special. I know he doesn't want this or expect it (and will probably be mad at me for doing this), BUT that's what birthdays are for! ;-) Most importantly, he will appreciate this more because of your kind words and memories. This website will be presented to him on his real birthday, Sunday June 1st.
