Slovakia Missionary Trip

Donation protected
On August 21st, 2014, I will be moving to Slovakia for the 2014-2015 school year to be a English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Math teacher at the Jr. High and High School Lutheran Academy in Martin. In addition to teaching, I will have the opportunity to start a soccer program at the Academy as well as be involved in leading before and after school clubs and activities such as Bible Study, Math Club or Nature Club. I will also be able to assist in strengthening their budding summer camp program.

While I am very excited for this wonderful opportunity to be a missionary and impact the lives of these students, I am going as a volunteer. The Center for Christian Education in Martin will provide housing and some meals, beyond that I am on my own for expenses. Thankfully, St. John's Lutheran Church has already helped me achieve 25% of my $12,000 USD goal. I am hoping to raise the additional funds through this page and through letters of support.

While monetary donations are much appreciated, support through prayer is even more important. Going abroad to teach without knowing much of the native language will prove challenging in many ways but through prayer, I know I will be able to find the way God is directing me over there.

If you would like to support me finacially, there are two ways. You can donate through this site GoFundMe or you can send a check to St. John's Lutheran Church. If you go through St. John's, there are no additional fees and 100% of the money goes toward supporting my trip and they can provide you with tax donation documentation. You can make the check out to St. John's and in the notes section, write for Erica Thomas' Mission Trip to Slovakia.
St. John's address is 959 Valley Road Arroyo Grande, CA 93420

How did I find out about this opportunity? Back in the fall of 2012, my parents asked me to consider going on the summer Slovakia mission trip to teach English. I figured there was no way I could afford it or keep my current jobs. But I decided to take a leap of faith and say yes. God placed a new job in front of me and through more generous support of St. John's, I was able to go in the summer of 2013.

After only two days in Slovakia, I had fallen in love with the people, the country, the Bible school community and the passion the people have to improve their faith and the life of the people around them. It was at that point that Jennifer, the group leader from Fresno, asked me if I had or would even consider coming back to teach for a school year. Without hesitation I said that would be an incredible opportunity as well as a challenge, and I was indeed, VERY interested.

8 months later, here I am, preparing to leave for Slovakia again in just under 4 and half months for a much longer stay than 2 weeks. God works in mysterious ways and I am feeling very honored to be called to work in Slovakia for at least 10 months.

Every little bit helps, $5 will feed me for at least one meal if not two! And if you know me, you know I love food, therefore, I love those who feed me!

Thank you for your generosity, support and prayers. I count you each among my many blessings in life.
