After Our Bodies Meet : From Resistance to Potentiality, looks at the ways queer, feminist artists have fought back against oppressive ideas about their bodies, beginning in the 1970's through today, and throughout the month of May I'm raising $2500+, as part of a final push to bring the exhibition to life!
As a social worker and curator, I have been proud to present exhibitions that bring attention to communities and issues often cast outside of mainstream view. From my first show on the experiences of LGBTQ youth worldwide to last year's exhibit highlighting legacies of queer youth homelessness, I've seen art serve as a powerful tool for storytelling and creating change.
This summer's exhibition exploring queer representations of cisgender female and transgender bodies, is on view at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art from June 5-August 3, 2014. AND, featuring a diverse group of lesbian and transgender artists, the show also challenges the art world's ongoing practice of predominantly funding and exhibiting work made by cisgender men.

Sophia Wallace exposes the irony of society's obsession with and ignorance of female sexuality in her ongoing mixed media project, CLITERACY.
Menstrual blood collages, made by Zanele Muholi, memorialize the rape and murder of South African black lesbians and transgender folks.
Chitra Ganesh's Indian comic book-style narratives reimagine powerful female futures.
