Solar For Elephants

Imagine a world where majestic elephants no longer have to roam far and wide in search of water, a world where they can quench their thirst at solar-powered watering holes. Elephants and other wild animals need water to survive. Human-wildlife conflict has made finding water harder every year. This is the trend we are aiming to reverse with our effort to build solar-powered watering holes in Botswana.

It's no secret that elephants are in constant search of water, and if they don't find it in the wild, the chances of human-wildlife conflict increases. By providing a reliable source of water to these animals, we can not only help conserve their population but also promote tourism in the region.

The watering holes will require a lot less maintenance, no more diesel purchases, and will run in a more environmentally friendly way compared to ones that are powered with fossil fuels. But that's not all, the transition to solar energy is also a step towards a greener future for Botswana, and the whole world.

We estimate that it costs somewhere between $6,000 and $8,000 to create each solar-powered watering hole.

We are calling on all animal lovers and conservationists to join us in this effort to make a real difference in rebalancing the water ecosystem. With your help, we can create a world where elephants can roam free and drink from solar-powered watering holes. Let's make this happen together!

The first step: building the Pathfinder watering holes.

Our initial goal is to raise enough money to purchase and install the equipment needed to convert two watering holes from diesel generators to solar. Sprightful Solar will be sending a team of solar experts to Botswana to work together with Nkombe Wild.

These Pathfinders will serve to create a standard procedure to install dozens of solar powered watering holes across Northern Botswana.
