Cassidy needs a diabetic service dog
Donation protected
Cassidy was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on November 26, 2012. Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune disease caused by the pancreas shutting down and the body not making its own insulin that is required by the body to break down sugars. If her body does not get the insulin needed her blood glucose levels will rise to dangerous and possibly deadly levels. Cassidy is unable to determine when her blood sugar is high or low. She is hoping to raise enough money to purchase a dog from Retrieving Freedom. This dog would be trained to help detect Cassidy's blood glucose levels based on her scent. This is a huge safety factor for Cassidy since she can't determine highs and lows, she is at risk of either slipping into a coma or developing diabetic ketoacidosis or even worse, death. Other medical issues that could arise include blindness, heart disease, liver and kidney failure, and loss of limbs. This dog would also be trained to help Cassidy get juice out of the fridge, get Cassidy her test kit and possibly even dial 911 if needed. Obtaining a service dog for Cassidy would be a great stress reliever for not only her but for her family as well as they would be able to relax a bit more and sleep better without the added worry of Cassidy's blood sugar dropping to dangerous levels overnight without being detected.
