My name's Maria. Currently studying an MSc in brain imaging and cognitive neuroscience at University of Birmingham. I'm asking you for your help to raise money to go towards my tuition so I can complete my MSc, as I promised my dad, Geoff Cross.
A year ago, I was in a car accident that led to the loss of my dad. This changed everything for me and my family - emotionally, mentally and financially. My family and I are still recovering and feeling the aftermath of our loss. All of my savings have gone towards mine and my sister's recovery. This means the majority of my studies is self-funded. I haven't been selected for any scholarships/bursaries or any other external funding (e.g. charities). A part-time job barely covers my expenses (i.e. rent, travel, medical expenses etc). The reality is the postgraduate loan isn't enough.
My reason for studying this MSc wasn't just forward my career but to help me move my life forward once again. I hope that by studying the brain, I can help others that have experienced trauma and PTSD, like myself, recover in the future. I can't do that without the qualification and without your help. I really want to succeed and to honour my dad's memory this way.
