Tani Peña has been inspirational to so many as she has gracefully fought for her health. Tani has battled AML Leukemia, she is currently in remission. Tani continues to battle respiratory infections, an unfortunate side effect of the treatments to fight the cancer. Each time her health takes a turn for the worst, Tani has shown her fighting spirit. Always smiling, laughing and refusing to be defeated.
Tani and her husband, Josh, live in Bedford, Indiana with their 2 young boys. As a family, they help organize and participate in local fundraising efforts to benefit children battling cancer. Tani has a big heart and she is full of life. She tries to help others in her community when they are in need. Now Tani needs the help of her family, friends and community.
Tani and her family need our love and support now more than ever. All funds received will go directly to Tani, Josh and the boys to help meet the needs of their family whether it be for medical equipment, medical bills or whatever expenses they may have.
Tani became unresponsive yesterday morning and was taken to Methodist ED.
CT’s revealed something (possible bleed?) in her head and an abdominal hemorrhage, platelet and hemoglobin counts were low, mental changes, and air hunger.
Tani was transferred back to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at University Hospital from Methodist ED last night.
Josh and I sat with Tani as she prayed. She spent most of the night in prayer.
This afternoon, Tani made the decision to stop her fight. It’s been 10 long weeks away from home this time, and her medical conditions cannot be repaired. Tani wants to be home with her family.
Tomorrow Tani will be transferred to our home by ambulance. Hospice care will manage her pain and her struggle to breathe.
Tani wants all of you to know how very much she appreciates the love you’ve given her and the prayers you’ve offered up on her behalf these past 4 years.
Tani is at peace.
