Cancer treatment for Bebe

Bebe is a 9 years old shihtzu who has brightened many many people's lives. She had a surgery on 2/27/14 to remove a mass in her butt. It was getting big really fast, pushing her anal glands thus she had a dirty butt all the time. Surgery went very well, and the stitches are taken out, and it healed up really nicely. But the biopsy of the mass removed wasn't something I was ready to hear. It was malignant melanoma, and without any treatment, she will maybe have only 6 months to live. The options given are (1) surgery to remove surrounding tissues where mass was removed, (2) radiation therapy, and (3) series of cancer vaccine. The surgeon said surgery is very difficult in that area, and may cause more harm than good. So the option one goes. There is no way I will make my little girl go through radiation therapy, even though the oncologist said dogs "tolerate" it well. So without any other options available, I decided to go with the very expensive cancer vaccine treatment.
Each vaccine cost about $800. Regimen for this vaccine is 1 shot every 2 weeks for first 8 weeks, then 1 shot every 6 months depending on how she does. While we were at the oncologist, he also found other masses in her mammo glands. But we need to wait for the first 4 vaccine regimen to be complete before removing them. So $5000 barely covers the upcoming cost of her treatment and surgery, but it will help us tremendously.
Bebe came into my life about 9 years ago. She had a birth defect so she's already been through a major surgery as soon as she was born. When she came home with me, she was so small she could fit on my palms. She's soften the heart of old grumpy dog Peanut, and kept him company until his last day. She brings joy to people who know her, and strangers who run into her on the street. She helped those who were afraid of dogs to become dog lovers. She's been always there for me, and because of her, I am a much better and stronger person. I want to see her grow old, and I look forward to the days I have to help her get up on the couch or bed. I want her to live the full life, and I just feel like 9 years is too short.
