International Internship

Dear Family and Friends,
I have been selected to be part of the Global Scholars Program at the Florida State University for an exciting opportunity to intern this summer under Peace Humanity International. Through this non-profit, I will be teaching the importance of good hygiene and sanitation to the people in Ghana, Africa. Ghana is one of the most densely populated countries in West Africa.
Though Ghana has become more politically stable in recent years, coups, food shortages and corruption have kept the country poor and indebted. 80% of all diseases in Ghana are caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. Only around 13% of the population has access to adequate sanitation facilities. In some areas, 1 in 10 children die before their 5th birthday.
Hopefully, through teaching hygienic practices throughout Ghana, this number can diminish. My hope is to teach some of the people in rural villages so they can in turn help teach the rest of their village. The desired end result is that they take their health into their own hands.
This is a nonpaying internship so I need to raise the funds to go. The total cost of my trip is $3,633 which includes airfare, visa, lodging, food, and required immunizations. This money is due in six (6) weeks from today's date March 26th. My trip takes place May 7th 2014 to July 2nd 2014.
