I am Saki Bomb (Sabbuur Ikhlas), Los Angeles Based screenwriter, director and documentary filmmaker and I want to tell you a true story, called "Untouchables".
"Untouchables" is the untold story of Derrick Hoff and the St. Benedict's Prep Fencers.
It's about a group of inner city, hard nose, scrappy, misfits who were led by a black former Olympian and All-American Fencer, Derrick Hoff.
The story is about how Derrick Hoff took over the fencing program when it was just one year old. After one year the team went 13 - 2 - 1 placing 3rd in the Districts and 9th in the state (Foil only). Two years after that they would win 3 out the 4 state champion fencing titles.
They would go on and dominant New Jersey high school fencing for the next decade.
One of the reasons I feel it's necessary for this story to be told is, there is very little about what he accomplished online.
I searched the internet and was unable to find anything about what Coach Hoff and the St. Benedict's Prep Fencers had accomplished.
As a former fencer I have the pleasure of being an athlete and assistant coach to Derrick Hoff.
As a filmmaker I have an opportunity and vested interest in making sure this story is not only told but told accurately.
Why this story?
It's a true gritty underdog story that takes you on a journey of growth.
It's the story of how one man saw past what was and what could be.
It's black history.
It's the story of how people excel over racism
It's the story of the haves and have nots.
It's a story of life long bonds and brotherhood.
Untouchables - A Fencing Story is our legacy and it's up to us to tell our stories and share it with others.
A full feature documentary which looks at how one act of kindness led to the success of former All-American Fencer Derrick Hoff. Who paid that kindness forward coaching at St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, New Jersey.
If all goes well I will begin Preproduction in November and begin Production in December up until April. Post production will span another four months and we will gear up for festival season 2020.
I'm looking for contributions, large and small, to get this project funded and off the ground.
Your contributions will go towards the production process; renting equipment, paying for location fees, insurance, permits, editing, sound mixing, music composer and paying the crew.
If we exceed our goal, the additional funds will go towards post production and submitting Untouchable into film festivals.
My campaign will run from August 2nd, 2018 to September 6th, 2018.
Your contribution would give me the gift to do what I love and share apart of our legacy that I think is needing to be told.
