Makoa the Fearless!

Donation protected
Makoa, whose name means "fearless," was diagnosed in mid October 2013 with a rare form of childhood cancer, Hepatoblastoma, a type of liver cancer. He was then only 8 months old. He has undergone 5 rounds of chemo, an embolization, a major tumor resection surgery, biopsies, and countless, scans, tests, and semi invasive procedures, awful chemo side effects, hair loss, and many infections and viruses.

Through it all, Makoa has remained a light of happiness. His cheerful nature has given everyone hope and faith to push through trials. Makoa is now 14 months old and is about to begin his 6th and final round of chemotherapy. He has fought brilliantly and his body has been remarkably resilient! His dedicated doctors will continue monitoring his heart to ensure it remains in the normal function range. This is one area that might see negative long term effects from the chemo.

Makoa's ears have, unfortunately, born the brunt of the long term/permanent side effects. He has been fitted for hearing aids that will hopefully help in his speech and language development. He is such a happy, sweet boy who is learning and developing as fast as his body will allow! He loves playing with his mom, dad, and two big sisters. Makoa is fearless.
