Research: Cuba's Healthcare System
Donation protected
Hi friends and family! A great opportunity has been presented to me through my school to do research in Cuba and learn what seems to be working well in their healthcare system. I will be visiting many clinics, talking to health care providers, and seeing first hand how neighborhood organizations are resources for family and physicians in Cuba. I will also be learning medical Spanish, which is a helpful skill working as an RN in California.
There is only one problem: I am a struggling college student and my parents cannot afford to send me on this great journey. This trip will teach me about healthcare systems outside of the U.S. and also give me a different kind of hands-on experience that my nursing program at USF cannot provide me with through clinical experience and theory courses.
This trip especially interests me because my mom is a Cuban Refugee and it would mean so much to me to see where she and my family is from. In addition, I once saw a documentary that compared health care in other countries, including Çuba, and I found it interesting (but also infuriating) to see the bad in American health care but also see how other countries appeared to provide more easily accessible and often better care than the American health care system.
My goal has always been to make an impact on countless lives for the better throughout my lifetime and I strongly believe that going on this trip will provide me with so much knowledge to bring back to the United States and my future patients. I truly believe this trip will ultimately form me into becoming an even better and stronger advocate for my future patients.
That said I would really appreciate all of the financial support I can get. I am working very, very hard to reach my goal of doing research in Cuba, but I really am in dire need of financial assistance. Any little bit helps (even a $10 donation). Think of it as an early graduation gift, I promise I wont ever ask for anything again!
