7th and Final Dash for David

Donation protected
Hello All Dashers for David!

After much soul-searching, the Riggs family has decided that this year’s race will be the last official Dash for David.

Dana Donnelly's original vision for the Dash was a gathering of friends and family to support the Riggs family and celebrate David’s birthday.  The Dash quickly became the perfect vehicle for Peggy and Craig and members of the community to raise awareness and support of the Hands Free legislation that we all feel so passionately about, and to raise money for David’s favorite charity, Relay for Life, and the MS Society and Compassionate Friends.  With all of your tremendous support year and year, we were successful, we raised a little money and as of August 1, 2019, Hands Free is now the LAW in Minnesota!

What a gift you all have helped give to the people of Minnesota in David’s name!!!!!!!!

It is with a joyful heart and much gratitude that we are reaching out to invite you all to the 7th and Final Dash for David 5K, on Saturday, December 14, 2019.  More than ever, we look forward to seeing all of you, cheering you on as you run around Como Lake, and celebrating David’s birthday postrace, once the final “Gold Medals” are awarded.

As in years past, check-in will begin at 8:00 am, followed by a short message from the Riggs family, and shotgun (cow bell) start at 9:00 am.  Once again, timing will be provided by Anderson Race Management (ARM).  Postrace, we will gather at the Half Time Rec, 1013 Front Avenue, in St. Paul, a lively sports bar with an Irish (of course) pub fare.  We’ll raise a glass to David and laugh, knowing he would be the best outfitted runner in the place, but never set foot outside in December for a 5K!  With a smile that never faded, a laugh so hearty you could feel it, and a bear hug to end all bear hugs, David could charm anyone into anything!  And still does!

Over the last six years, more than 1,200 runners have braved the cold, snow, and ice in an amazing gesture of love for David and support of his family.  Your commitment to us and our crusade to end distracted driving is not only a testament to how extraordinary David was and the difference he continues to make in this world, but also your selflessness, concern for others, and hope for a safer world for everyone.

We will NEVER be able to thank you enough!  Thanks to you, we have never felt alone on this journey.

Dana is working her magic on the most amazing memorial t-shirt for the final Dash.  Be sure to sign up soon to secure a shirt!  If you don’t run, walkers are also always welcome.  If you don’t run or walk, join us postrace at The Half Time Rec, and raise a glass to our beloved, David John Riggs!

The Riggs family will continue to host the annual Keep on Moving David Riggs Memorial Golf Classic and provide scholarships to deserving young men and women at David’s Alma mater, Tartan High School, in Oakdale, Minnesota.

Every year, David’s family will continue to gather at Como Lake on the Saturday closest to his birthday, December 18th, for an informal walk or run around the lake in his honor, followed by a gathering to raise a glass to David.  And EVERYONE WILL ALWAYS BE INVITIED TO JOIN US.

In David’s wise words:

“To be a family means to have people surrounding you that you feel good with, people who will always be there for you.  My (OUR) FAMILY IS HUGE.”

Thank you!
