Charlie’s Medical Bills
Hello everyone, I’m Taylor and I’m trying to raise some money to help with Charlie’s medical bills. She’s a 2 almost 3 year old miniature dachshund with tons of personality. She loves to play fetch, go for walks, and chase little critters. Unfortunately she has been admitted to a neurological specialist due to a sudden disc rupture in her back that has bruised her spinal cord. She required x-rays, an MRI, and hours of spinal surgery to remove the debris from the ruptured disc that was compressing her spinal cord. The most recent update is that she has made it out of surgery and is awake. She will need to be hospitalized for at least another night possibly two and we are already tallying in at around $12,000. Charlie will have a long road of recovery, rehabilitation, and cannot use steps or jump again. With the surgery, she has about a 90% recovery rate as the neurosurgeon mentioned. For those of you that don’t know, IVDD (intervertebral disc disease) is a condition that affects about 25% of dachshunds as well as some other breeds, especially those with longer backs. Our bodies have little discs between our vertebrate - sort of like jelly-filled donuts, that act as cushions between the vertebrae. IVDD is when these discs deteriorate (calcify/harden), wherein they become susceptible to bulging or bursting - especially with hard impacts (jumping off a couch, steps, rough play, etc). For those of you who know Charlie, you know these are things that she does on a daily basis that make her…..her. I hate to be asking for help, but I would be crazy to think Charlie and I could do this alone. Anything helps and will be put to the current bills and recovery of my sweet Charlie Rose. Thank you in advance
