My 42 year old husband Loren Huisinger, is battleing State IV Esophageal Cancer. His courage and his strong determination to beat this disease is an incredible inspiration to his friends and family. Even during his absolute worst days, he never forgets to smile and keep his faith lifting up anyone lucky enough to be around him. He recently completed two weeks of radiation to attempt to shrink the tumor lodged in his esophagus so that he can swallow. Even though the recovery from his radiation was difficult, we still measure our success in small increments and thankfully today he is able to swallow well enough to avoid the use of a feeding tube!
Now, we face the next battle. His cancer has taken hold of his liver and lymph system, and surgery is not an option. All the doctors we spoke to had the same bleak prognosis and suggested an aggressive strategy with three lines of chemotherapy offering only a couple of extra months. The side effects of chemotherapy are less than desirable especially when the doctors only offered a short extension to his life, but no cure. Not wanting to submit to the chemotherapy, we started searching for alternative healing methods to help his body and quality of life.
As small business owners, with no health insurance, we find ourselves in great financial need. I have taken on a new job, but my employee sponsored health insurance will not take effect until May. Then, much to my discouragement, health insurance will not pay for the alternative healing centers, and they require payment before they will treat Loren. We are attempting to get him access to either a center in Colorado Springs, CO or Sedona, AZ. Either one would be beneficial to his health and quality of life. This chapter in our family's life has been challenging, but we are not giving up! It is my role and absolute joy to make sure that Loren's life with us is full of comfort, joy and beautiful memories for his eleven year old son, myself and his entire family. We are attempting to raise enough money to allow him access to an alternative healing center or a cancer center to give him every advantage during his battle. We are grateful for any support.
