Corey and Jaana Kelley Relief Fund

Imagine being married to the person that you truly believe you were destined to be with.  You have a healthy relationship, a new baby, two income household, the ability to pay your bills and maybe go to a movie every once in a while. Imagine in the span of 24 hours, your entire world changing by something you had entirely no control over.  Finally, imagine this is the reality of someone you are very close to and consider to be a brother or sister.  We were spiritually inspired to set up this fund on behalf of our dear friends, Jaana and Corey Kelley.  Below you will read a summary of their story, as told by the courageous and loving wife, Jaana!

"Prior to September of 2009, Corey and I never knew each other existed.  I believe meeting one another was destined by the Lord.  November 6, 2010 I said "I do" to the most amazing man I know.  The Lord had graced us both with each other. Life for us was very simple.  We lived our lives desiring to please the Lord first and then each other.  Things picked up rather quickly for us after marriage.  Within five months of marriage we purchased our first home and we were humbled to find out we'd have our first child June of 2012.

In December 2012, my husband and I found ourselves in the ER of a local hospital, only to be told that he would need brain surgery immediately.  They had diagnosed him with hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain). The symptoms that led to this hospital visit were severe headaches, but never did we think this would have been the outcome.  He had surgery and it was completed successfully!

February 26, 2013 change our lives.  I received a call from Corey that his headaches had increased and we immediately headed to the hospital.  By the end of that night my husband was unresponsive and on a ventilator.  My husband had suffered several strokes from the increase of fluid on his brain which left him with significant brain damage.  "Lord, what just happened?" My husband at that time was a healthy 42 year old male in great shape.  "Father, why Corey?"

It was days before my husband opened his eyes and spoke his first words.  When he finally did, he didn't know who I was.  Heartbroken I just sat there confused not knowing what to say or do.  Every day there was something new to be done; blood work, MRI's, talking with doctors, visitors, our 8 month old baby girl, my new job, etc.  What do I do? How am I going to make it?

Days, weeks and months went by.  We have recently met our one year mark and the fight continues.  Within this year a myriad of events have happened that have challenged my family; emotionally, financially, physically and spiritually we've been put to the test.  My husband continues to struggle with his memory, but I still believe that the LORD WILL HEAL HIM!

I believe our daughter (who is now 22 months) plays an important role in this season of our lives.  She has brought a significant amount of joy at such a trying time.  Watching her interact with her daddy, even when he forgets her name, is bittersweet.  The unconditional love she has for him is teaching me things I am still trying to understand myself. Corey gave "Rayna" (which in Hebrew means Pure) her middle name which is Faith, which put together, is "Pure Faith."  Who would have thought that this would be the very thing that would sustain my family in this season of our lives?

This season continues to teach me about marriage and family; how to cover my husband/family; how to rely only on the ONE who can allow the anticipated miracle; and to see and acknowledge where my daily strength comes from and to live the familiar saying "one minute at a time."  I petition you to stand with us in believing for the miracle that is on its way."

The Bible tells us that we are our brother's keeper. To Janicca and I, this means helping in whatever ways we can.  Right now, for this family it is financial help that is needed.  Jaana is currently the only one working and that is part time.  With your financial help and prayers, we hope that the Kelley family will have their basic monthly financial needs met (food, utilities, mortgage, etc.).  We believe in the principle that many hands make light work.

As you think about your own family, please consider giving as a minimum one dollar ($1) and ask 10 people you know and trust to read the story above and give one dollar ($1).  If you would rather forego reaching out to your network, then please donate ten dollars ($10) -OR- whatever amount you feel led to donate.  We are humbly asking for your help on behalf of the Kelley family.  Please join us in support of their present circumstance and their destined future. It is our prayer that God blesses you greatly and we thank you for your time and consideration!
