Hello! My name is Jesse, and I'm a transgender man living in southwest Pennsylvania. I have been openly transgender since January of 2019, but I've always known that there was something different about me from a very young age.
I began my medical transition in December of 2019, meaning I have been undergoing HRT, or Hormone Replacement Therapy, for 6 months at the time of creating this campaign. My life has improved drastically, and I have been feeling progressively more and more comfortable in my own skin as the weeks have gone by.
However, there is another large step I need to take in my medical transition, and that's "top surgery", or a double mastectomy. My chest will be cosmetically altered through a surgical process that will drastically alter my appearance and improve the quality of my life. It's something I've dreamed of for as long as I can remember in terms of my transition, and I want it more than anything in the near future.
This procedure, however, is considered cosmetic and, as such, is often very expensive and not covered by insurance. I'm planning on scheduling a surgery with Dr. Daniel Medalie in the Cleveland, Ohio area for my top surgery, and I am hoping to have the procedure done in May of 2021, so I can take the proper time to recover and heal from the procedure while I'm home for the summer.
The procedure will range from $7,000 to $8,000 dollars depending on how my consultation will go. I am aiming for, however, at least $7,500 raised by friends, family, and kind strangers in order to afford this procedure. I have around $1,000 saved all ready to fall back onto, but I know I will not be able to reach this goal alone.
