Joe’s fight with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia

Donation protected
As a family we’re coming together to Raise Funds for Joe and The Department of Haematology, Bexley Wing, St James hospital.

We will be getting our steps in in February and doing atleast 10,000 steps a day. Which equates to around 133 miles in the month.

We will also be holding other fund raising projects along the way.

We have chosen to Fundraise to help out Joe Financially as Cancer unfortunately comes with a financial burden. This will help support him and his family through this difficult time.

50% of funds raised will go direct to Joe and 50% will be going to The Department of Haematology at the Bexley Wing , St James hospital, Leeds where he is currently been treated.

Joe is just 34 years old and has 3 children and lives with his Fiancé Ellie. Hopefully this will take a little pressure off them during this time.

Where it began ……

On October 19th our world came crashing down.

Joe was advised by 111 that day to come to the hospital for a checkup after a bite he had wasn’t healing and had become infected. Bloods were taken and he was sent home only to be called back a few hours later after his Bloods had come back abnormal.

The Doctor advised him that his white blood cells were extremely high and that he had Leukaemia.

A few days later after more test results had come in the Doctor delivered the News that it was Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, which unfortunately is a very fast and aggressive form so they needed to act fast.

27th October Joe was admitted to Ward 89 Bexley Wing to start his Intense Chemotherapy course. This was a rough lengthy stay for Joe. But he got through it like the Warrior that he is and we got him home on the 28th November.

On the 9th December we received some amazing news that he was in REMISSION !

But more Chemotherapy and treatments were to come over Christmas along with another Hospital stay at Ward 94.

Treatments are still ongoing at Ward 87 and will be for a while and he requires daily visits to the hospital for Tests, Blood transfusions and Platelets at Ward 87.

The staff have all been amazing and this is a way of giving back to them and relieving Joe of the Financial Burden.
