Mikita needs ACL surgery

Donation protected
For those of you who know me know that I am not one to ask for help and am usually the one trying to do all the helping for others that surround me. Day after day i go to work with only one goal in mind which is to help the animals i come across every day within the shelter and or rescues or assist and work with owners who just need a helping hand with their pets during their struggles. I have never turned down someone or an animal that was in need that i was able to help with and truly needed and deserved it. With that being said bare with me as I am now reaching out to you for help for myself and my personal dog and this is very difficult for me to do.

Bad news is....My 5 year old Rottweiler, Mikita, has yet another torn ACL. Good news is this will make repair #2 and there are no more ACLs to repair after this !

My situation with Mikita has been a really tough subject for us, as we love our pets more than anything, try to do right by them and make sure that they have the care they need to stay healthy and have the best quality of life possible. Yet with all the curve balls life keeps throwing our way, one thing after another, one step forward and 2 steps back again, we have not been financially capable to come up with all the money to provide Mikita with the much needed surgery that she needs in order to repair her torn ACL. Torn ACL'S are not life threatening and i understand this, but they do weigh in on and effect the quality and longetivity of life. And it is now at the point that it is effecting her mobility significantly and her quality of life and I am not ok with that.

I am reaching out to you, swallowing my pride and asking for any help that is available to help us get Mikita the help she needs in order to get her ACL repaired. This procedure is going to cost $2,000 at the Bone,Joint and Spine clinic with Dr. Harrison which for myself like most of us is a lot to come up with all at once, cash, with no option for payment arrangements to be made possible. The total cost of surgery includes EVERYTHING no hidden or additional fees down the road, it covers any and all follow up visits she will have to have, all medications, antibiotics, removal of staples, bandaging etc. God forbid (knock on wood) if she would ever have any problems in the future such as a re-tear or any cartlidge build up that would cause her discomfort later down the road even years later, he will go back in at no additional charge and fix it.

In september 2010 (pictured above) Mikita tore her Left ACL which I had repaired by Dr. Harrison at 2642 Billingsley rd in Columbus on September 27th, 2010. She healed without incident and was doing very good back to running, playing frisbee and being a normal happy dog, until late last year when I noticed her having problems again from time to time. I took her back in 2013 to Dr.Harrison who then informed me that she had now completely tore her Right ACL which would need repaired just as the right did previously. I left there in tears because I knew how hard it was going to be for me to come up with this amount of money once AGAIN.....
I have been keeping her on pain medicine as needed, glucosamine/chondroitin pills daily, fish oil pills and had cut her food back again in hopes of getting her to loose some weight to relieve some of the extra stress off of her leg. She had been doing pretty good for the most part minus days here and there when she would over do herself, would spend to much time outside laying on the concrete or took to long of a walk and would end up lame and 3 legged for the rest of the evening.

Recently she has gotten worse, after having a few slips on the ice outside this winter, loosing her balance on the stairs because she was trying so hard to get up them 3 legged and a one other slip indoors on the hardwood floors it has gotten significantly worse. Even with daily pain meds, she is limping, walking 3 legged, crying when she tries to stand up, refusing to stand up at times and having a really hard time all in all and it is killing me not being able to do anything right this very minute to help her and to fix her and making her wait even longer. The past couple weeks she has been 3 legged almost daily which is breaking my heart. She will go outside and then refuse to come back up the 5 steps because it hurts to much, she cant get on or off the couch by herself and REFUSES to get in the car now. She will try so hard to "schooch" herself towards you for attention versus having to actually stand up, walk and use her back leg.

I have applied for a few vet bill assistance programs (with no response yet) in hopes that i will be eligible for even just a little bit, as we all know every little bit counts and it all adds up to making a big difference in the long run. If you are able to help by donating just a few dollars to help us help Mikita sooner than later it would be more than greatly appreciated. This has been really hard for me to open up and ask for help from friends, family and complete strangers, but I've seen it done and I'm willing to do and try anything that could help us get her surgery done sooner than later as I cannot allow her to continue in pain.

Thank you to all in advance from the bottom of my heart for anything that you are able to do to help, I will absolutely without a doubt continue paying all of this forward to those in need.

Thank you from,
Brooks, Erin and the entire dysfunctional crew !
