In July of 2013 Becky had a laparoscopy for complications resulting from endometriosis and was told at the time that she would be unable to have any more children. A few weeks after the surgery she was feeling a little odd so, although she was told that it was basically impossible, she decided to take a pregnancy test. Beyond all possibilities, it came back positive. She took another to be sure, which came back with the same result. We set up an appointment immediately and found out that she was 10 weeks pregnant. We were both overjoyed and scared all at the same time, but definitely looking forward to the future. A short 4 weeks later, at 14 weeks, Becky began having some complications which would result in her starting her long road of bedrest. She had to unfortunately resign from her job as an optician since she was not allowed to go anywhere. She was at times in excruciating pain and occasionally bleeding. This obviously resulted in a large amount of stress for the both of us. As time went on more complications arose until it got to the point that she was on explicit bed rest and was only able to get out of bed to go to the bathroom. In mid January things continued to get worse so we made a trip to the ER, instead of going to her OB again since he did not seem to be taking things seriously enough. She was immediately addmitted to the Labor and Delivery ward at SHMC Riverbend with pre-term labor and chronic placental abrubtion. She was constantly monitored and was kept in the hospital for nearly 10 days. She was released on Feb 3, and was home for 7 days, before her water broke at 4am on Feb 10th. She was re-admitted to the hospital and was hoping to make to at least the 34 week mark, but that just wasn't meant to be. Kingston James was born on Feb 15th and 11:56am at 5lbs 1oz at 33 4/7 weeks. He was immediately rushed to the NICU to begin his long stay there. He had quite a few complications during his stay there but finally graduated and was able to come home with us on Sat March 8th. His arrival home didn't last long. On Tues March 11th we took him in for his wellness check with the pediatrician, and had a little concern over his labored breathing and congested sinuses. On Wed March12 we took him back to the pediatrician because things seemed to be getting worse and we were starting to get worried. We were told that it was just a cold and that it would run it's course. Later that day he began to have problems choking while he was eating and having bouts of apnea, which means that he simply stops breathing. After a couple of VERY scary episodes, the last of which required some intense stimulation including pinching, blowing on his face, and clapping very loudly to get him breathing again, we decided that the pediatrician was possibly wrong in her diagnosis and decided to take him to the hospital. He was immediately admitted to the PEDS unit and stayed there overnight. When the PEDS unit realized the next day that he was far beyond their ability to care for him, he was re-admitted to the NICU for continual one on one observation. After his arrival at the NICU he moved from nasal cannula oxygen, to HFNC, to CPAP, and finally Thursday evening was intubated and put on a breathing machine. He also had to go through a painful spinal tap to be sure that he did not have viral meningitis before they start him on broad specrum antibiotics. He has been officially diagnosed at this point with Human ParaInfluenza Virus. We are unaware at this point how long he will be in the hospital, but we are hopeful that he will be home as soon as possible where he belongs. This page is just meant to help out with all of our expenses from the very beginning of this journey when Becky first had to be put on bedrest as funds are definitely starting to run very short, and we don't know how many more expenses that we will have to deal with in the near future. Any way that you can help is GREATLY appreciated and we thank you in advance for any help you can give.
