Fight 4 Kelly

Kelly worked in the child care field for over 27 years in the Durham region. She adores kids just as much as they adore her. In 2011, she took a huge leap of faith and decided to relocate with her family to the Kawartha Lakes to persue a dream of going back to school to become a Social Worker. She became a student at Fleming in the fall of 2013. Kelly had been really enjoying the SSW program and was looking forward to working with families again. Sadly, she was diagnosed with Lobular Breast Cancer right before Christmas this past year. Tests revealed that it had spread to the lymph nodes and bones. It is not curable but it can be slowed down with the right treatments. She is currently taking a chemo pill daily and has intravenous bone treatments every 3-4 weeks. Kelly was devastated to drop out of school but it became clear that all her strength had to be devoted to fighting her Cancer.
Due to the extreme side effects of the treatments, it has been impossible for Kelly to work. As the family does not have any medical insurance, it has already taken a great financial toll. Some of the medications are very expensive and not covered by any health plans. With her family and friends by her side, she has a positive attitude and a fighting spirit.
