Hi everyone, Lynda is a hardworking, soft-hearted, queer single mother of two grown sons. She was forced by both her employer and the system of capitalism which oppresses us all to wait tables and serve food during an active pandemic, in one of the hottest virus spots in America. We believe she contacted it from a fellow server. Since her diagnosis, Lynda’s employer has continued to hound her to go back to work so that he and his family can self isolate and he can continue to profit off of her labour. Suffice it to say that she has no medical insurance whatsoever through her employment or otherwise. Lynda suffered at home for weeks and weeks, with intermittent trips to urgent care (though she is rarely given her test results because she can’t pay for them). About a month ago, she was finally admitted, due to what the technicians call “classic Covid lung veils” as there is infection draped in nets over our dear one’s lungs. This infection causes a nearly-daily need to have her lungs painfully drained. She’s had multiple shunts inserted and removed (due to infection at the shunt-site). Although she’s yet to be placed on a ventilator, it’s not been ruled out as a possibility. Because of the Covid activity in OH, we’re not actually sure if she’s been kept off ventilators because she’s well enough or because there’s a shortage. In addition to fighting for her life, our girl has been in total isolation for months. Several nurses have been classist, ableist, homophobic, and you would be SHOCKED at the Covid denial within the medical community. Absolutely shocked and disgusted. Unfortunately, the hospital isn’t allowing outside care packages, flowers, etc. Nor is Lynda up to a ton of communication. It’s hard for her to stay awake long enough to hold down a conversation and there are often long gaps where I wait in terror that she’ll never reply. When I told her that we were creating this fundraiser, Lynda said “I’m too exhausted to fight kindness ”. This is a prime example of someone who has been failed by every system that ever should have cared for her, lifelong. My goal is to show her that she is, indeed, worthy of being loved and cared for by her community. These things are so hard to accept after repeated trauma. I know you all know this. Financially, I don’t actually have a goal in mind. I just want Lynda to know she’s not alone. As far as I’m concerned, the money can go to outstanding bills, or a room upgrade or a tv rental or literally whatever else Lynda needs to feel like a dignified human being. If you’d like to donate to cover specific bills, please contact me directly I love you all and I’m proud to human amongst you. Er xo
