My name is Bentley. I am a 22mnth old baby boy. I was admitted to the Boston Children's Hospital on Feb. 6th, 2014 where I tested positive for Strep-pneumococcal Meningitis. Because of this infection I was placed in a medically induced coma for 2wks to help my body fight as hard as it could while the machines breathed for me. During the time of intubation, I had endured many MRI's which showed I suffered a series of strokes caused my the Meningitis. After we had some wonderful recovery and physical therapy, I began to walk and talk again like nothing ever happened. I had follow up MRI's to check up on my brain. It showed the swelling went down, the strokes were stable, but I had developed a Hydrocephalus. This is very common with the disease I had so my doctors weren't too surprised. After a few more MRI's we learned the fluid was not being reasorbed into my brain, instead it was building up and causing pressure which in turn could cause more damage. March 6th I became very sensitive to light, sound and touch. March 7th 2014 @ 4am I became symptonalic to the pressure and my heart rate along with respitory rate began to drop and I started vomiting. This called for an emergent trip back to the critical care unit. When I got here they were preping me for a surgery to place an external shunt into my brain to help drain cerebral spinal fluid and relieve pressure. I have been here in the hospital for a month now with both my mommy and my daddy who haven't left my side. I'm a very strong little boy, and my parents tell me they're so proud of me. I miss my 3 yr old brother Bryce, and I hope we can go home soon. I still have one more surgery to go. Please pray for me. God is listening ♡♥
