help support my father

When my father was diagnosed with Stage Four Lung Cancer, I was crushed. I felt lost and hurt. He's always been the
best dad a daughter could ask for, and an amazing person. At one low point in my life my father saved me with a warm
hug and the perfect words. The day he started a life extending drug, I was scared. If he took the drug, doctors
promised a five to six year life expectancy. They said it would be a "good, quality life," a term cancer doctors use
in these situations.

Two years later, he is still here. Two years of his laugh and his love. Two years of watching him play with his
grandchildren. Two years I thought I wouldn't have. Two years he fought with companies to pay his bills and receive
the drug. Then in January of 2012, the company told him he needed to pay $1700 up front to receive his medicine. This
is the cost of just ONE month's worth of medicine. Medicine that keeps my father alive.

Unfortunately, any outside funding and help from his insurance had run out. My mother took out a loan, hoping they
would eventually find a company to help pay. Thank God they did, and he has been with them since. Then in November of
that same year they received a check for the $1700 as a "refund" because they had "paid too much." It seemed almost
too fortuitous at the time, but they used it to pay back the initial loan. In January of this year, the tumors in his
lung actually started to shrink. One in particular shrank so much that his doctor actually said "this is awesome!"

Recently, he received a call from the company that had issued the refund. They told my father that they'd made a
mistake and that they were not supposed to get the $1700 back. They told him in order to keep receiving the medicine,
the $1700 would have to be repaid in full. My dad was understandably furious, but they told him, and I'm quoting here,
"It's nothing personal, it's just business." I'm sure there are some complicated bureaucratic screw-ups causing all of
this mess and that there is no one person responsible. I'm sure these people are just doing their jobs, but for us,
this is very personal. Whether they intended to or not, they pretty much put a price on the life of a great man, a
father, and a grandfather. Since this happened, I've watched him walk around in defeat. My parents have exhausted all
of their resources. The second company I mentioned can't help more than they already are because it's a separate
charge that they have no control over.

I'm hoping that with everyone's help, we can get over this obstacle so I can have my father back. I just want to see
him smile again. Thank you in advance for your time and any support you can provide!
