Help Us in The Journey To Recovery

On Wednesday night, March 5 at around 9:15 pm, a hit and run accident involving an animal was witnessed on Sunset Drive and 132 Ave near Sunset Senior High. The car fled the scene of the accident, leaving the animal to find it's way on it's own. The piercing sounds of a cry for help came from the animal who was hit, allowing witnesses who were at the high school to act quickly. Amongst the witnesses, was my friend, Jeena Velasquez, who made no hesitations to run over and help this innocent dog. Miami-Dade County Public School officers made their way to block the street from any incoming traffic in hopes to recover the dog and take him to the nearest emergency room.



Brutally injured, covered in blood, open fractures, and helpless- Jeena picked up the dog, put him in her car, and rushed her way over to the nearest 24-hour emergency room, Knowles Animal Clinic. Once arrived, the workers of the hospital rushed the dog into the hospital in where they were able to stabilize the pet and begin treatment. Due to the unfortunate un-renewal of his Microchip, employees were unable to recover any information of ownership from AVID (microchip company). The next attempt was to contact the phone number on his ID tag, which displayed the name "Bobo" (Renamed Robo) and the words "I'm Deaf"- which brought even more bad news- disconnected phone number. The workers of Knowles Animal Clinic gave Jeena two options: claim ownership of the dog and help save his life, or humanely euthanize "Robo", a 2-year old, Male, Catahoula Leopard Dog. Out of the kindness of her heart, with no second thoughts, and expenses far from mind, Jeena claimed ownership of "Robo" and at around 12am, the pet was rushed into surgery. Robo's dislocated hip was put on hold in hopes to save his opposite leg that was terribly injured. The wound was open and bleeding with evidence of missing bone fragments. An external fixation was placed to fix his broken Tibia, due to the absence of bones from when Robo was hit by the car. Because the leg that was fractured was on the opposite side of the hip in which was dislocated, the veterinarian decided it was better to save Robo's broken leg.

After all procedures were completed between 12am-8am, Robo's bill was already at $1,638.00. Because of his critical condition, Robo needs to remain under the care of a veterinarian for several days, leaving the estimated final cost for "Robo" at around $2,676.00.

We cannot begin to explain how in need of help we are to help save this innocent, sweet, boy. Any help counts. Our goal is to raise $2,700.00, in which will help us pay Robo's emergency care bill and any other expenses he may need in order to make a full 100% recovery. This innocent boy does not deserve to suffer because his owners could not care for him. "Robo" needs your help, and we need your help, in order to raise enough money to help Robo in his journey to recovery. Every dollar counts now more than ever. We need your help. Any help counts.



Update 3/18/14:

As of today, March 18, Robo will be under the care of doctors at Town & Country Animal Hospital. After two weeks of intensive recovery, Dr.Silverio at Knowles Animal Clinic feels Robo is ready to be transfered to a foster care home or another hospital. Fortunately, the doctors at Town & Country Animal Hospital have offered to help us in this long journey to recovery for Robo. Robo will be in recovery from anywhere to 3-6 months, and at that time, will need surgery on his hip. Robo will remain on prescribed meds and will need intensive therapy to help speed his recovery. Radiographs will need to be taken monthly, and bandage changes are to be done every 5-7 days. The process of his recovery will be long, but there is nothing else we want to do but help Robo come to a full recovery. After a long two weeks at Knowles Animal Clinic, Robo's bill is totaled at $3,366.04. Our fundraising page will remain running to help meet expenses that will come our way throughout Robo's recovery.
