Alpha Delta Pi is currently raising money for one of our most treasured members as her family is going through an extremely rough time. If you all haven't heard about Mallory Chaney, I will give you the quickest version of what has happened. She is a junior, communications major, worked at the Corvette museum, has a boyfriend, was a member of SGA and is much like you and me. She had been feeling sick lately, so over fall break last semester she went to the doctor for what she thought would be a mono test. The doctors noticed some unusual symptoms so they did an x-ray just to be safe. They quickly found out that she had a fist-size tumor on her pancreas that had been there long enough to become hardened. When they saw this, they told her she needed to schedule a surgery as soon as possible. When she heard this, she suggested that she would be home for Christmas break in a month or two. The doctors quickly told her that the surgery needed to be scheduled in two weeks and that she needed to drop out of school effective immediately. Imagine this happening to your best friend, sister, or even you. She was so upset that she would be missing out on her junior year and have to leave everyone behind, not to mention the fear of a very serious surgery to remove a tumor. Two weeks later, she had this surgery that consisted of removing the tumor, part of her pancreas, part of her intestines, part of her stomach, and re-routing everything so it could still work together. Her recovery from the surgery has been anything but easy. This surgery was done in October, and since then, she has been readmitted to the hospital 5 times due to complications. She is currently in the hospital now. Her parents have adjusted their entire lives to make sure that she gets the help that she needs in order to recover. Alpha Delta Pi wants to do anything we can to ease the pain of this situation, and when thinking of our options, we thought monetary help would be best. Anyone who has ever been in the hospital knows the expenses of things like this, and I really think the Greek community of WKU can pull together to do something big for someone who has done much for us. Even if every person donated 5 dollars, this could be HUGE. So ADPi is asking you to put yourself in her shoes, and think of what you would want us to do for you. Anything is appreciated. Thank you!
