Let's Help Julie

You know when you wrack your brain for that one couple who have managed to love each other, deeply and dearly, through thick and thin and for nearly more years than you can count? That was Mike and Julie. They were a shining beacon of just exactly how good it could be.

And then Mike died taking down a tree near their house. And that, all too suddenly for all of us, was that.

Mike was an Army veteran--a career guy who got hurt doing what he did. So the government took care of him financially enough that he and Julie could make ends meet with the various jobs they did, raising two kids in a modest house surrounded by friends and family. This is Vermont. Only a handful of us can make it here on a single income stream. Nonetheless, Mike and Julie's love for each other let them live like a king and queen.

If this story had a happy ending, it would be that Julie could afford to continue living in their house, doing the work she does, and making ends meet. Unfortunately, when Mike died, the support from the Army simply ended. Julie also learned that they were in deep credit card debt. Mike protected her from knowing that the ends didn't always meet, never expecting to be taken by a falling tree limb.

Julie has tried to make it work, but she can't. The debt is crushing, despite her ability to keep up with household and transportation expenses. So she asked me to help her ask you all for some help. This is not an easy thing for her, despite all of the help she and Mike have offered their friends and families over the years.

No one is ever ready to take their turn to need help.

Julie needs help. The greatest gift we could give her right now is  freedom from this debt. The alternative is bankruptcy, which is also not the proudest moment in a human's life, but she'll go there if that's the only way out.

I think we can do better.

The debt amounts to just a little over $20,000. I'd like to raise $25,000 just to put her on the plus side with a little bank account padding. Furnaces, leaks, motors, and those sorts of things can happen. This would help soften the blow for a good person who needs us.

It's not a lot of money if we share. A hundred of us pitch in $250 and we're there. Or 250 of us with $100. Or 500 give $50. Really, any combination will get this done. A thousand of us at twenty five. Bunches of fives. If you've made it this far, you love these people as much as I do. Do what you can for them.

Thanks.
