HELP ME!!

This is no joke. I am calling out for help. I need help to accomplish the growth in a organization dediciated to poor children in the U.S.and in developing nations.

My name is Ted Grosser. I have a fatal lung disease that is rapidly overtaking me. Janet, my wife, and I are seeking help to pay six months of rent and moving expenses to a one floor apartment. This help will enable us to live on our Social Security for other living expenses.

It will also give us time to prepare AngelCare, the nonprofit we have led for 25 years, to complete plans for recovering from the Great Recession and time for me to provide an orientation to a new President. AngelCare works with poor children in developing countries. We have been working on an expansion program that will not only serve more children; it will stabilize AngelCare's finances.

I have Pulmonary Fibrosis, a fatal lung disease. It is rapidly destroying my lungs and my ability to transfer oxygen from the air to my lungs and my body. I am half-way through eight months of effective, productive work that my pulmonary specialist gave me. They put me on oxygen a little earlier than predicted; my disease is very aggressive. I am already slowing down as my energy slowly goes down as less oxygen is transferred into my body.

Your support will give me the time "“ free from rent worries "“ to complete and launch those expansion plans. This will multiply the value of your gift 100 fold.

There is one sentence we use in AngelCare more than any other to encourage support for our work with children. "In everyone's life there is a time when you pray for an angel to come and change the circumstances of your life "“ you can be the answer to a child's prayers by becoming that angel through AngelCare."

I never thought I would use that challenge on behalf of Janet, my wife, and me. But we are looking for "angels" to help us. I have been the head of international organizations for children and youth since 1973. This has not made me rich or famous. Contrary to the exceptions you see headlined in the news media, the leaders of most small to medium sized charities do not get rich. Like Janet and me, many get poorer. We have a terrible financial balance sheet, but we have a wealth of friends, smiles of children, and personal satisfactions that out-weighs a ton of gold.

In the past, we used the proceeds from the sale of two homes to support our programs and staff during some very lean years and to ensure support for children and teachers. We were confident we would be paid back some day. 9/11 and the Great Recession made that less likely "“ although we had hope. The hope may not be realized in time. I am not complaining; this is the life we have chosen. God has been good to us in so many ways that are worth more than money in the bank or a comfortable retirement.

I am in my 76th year, and people are surprised when they learn my age. If it is true that you are as old as you feel, until recently, I felt like I was at least 30 years younger. I have been active and very much involved in my work and in life. I desperately want to finish our expansion plans and see them launched.

While I would not put dying at the top of my to-do list, I am a person of faith and not afraid of dying. I ministered in the Lutheran Church before becoming involved with children around the world. There are many things "“ like my wife and family "“ that I will miss "“ as I pass from this life.

Before I die, I want to help AngelCare recover from the recession, During those difficult times, Janet and I have relied upon our Social Security for everything but our rent. Until recently I earned that money from speaking. That is gone.

We need to have $10,500 for rent and moving to an apartment without stairs. We will be grateful for any help. Your help will allow me to get our growing plans completed and launched. It will also give me time to work without worry to help a new AngelCare President while I have the strength and energy. A smooth transition is necessary for the sake of the 1,600 children in our projects in Guatemala, Honduras, the Philippines, and the Russia Far East.
