Mike Tekell

Mike was diagnosed with cancer on 5 Feb, 2014. He will be in a non-pay status while he undergoes cancer treatment 828 miles away from home at MD Anderson in Houston TX. He has lost a lot of work time and will lose more as treatment begins. As well as $8,000 in payments out of pocket costs before insurance. He needs financial support to help with household bills and travel costs during this time. As a family, we have become far too familiar with what is involved in fighting cancer. Mike is the 8th person in our immediate family diagnosed with cancer since 2007. His father was diagnosed in 2007 and when his father was placed into Hospice Care in 2011, Mike and his wife opened their home to his father, mother and blind brother to support them during this rough time. Mike and his wife have not only been generous to his family but they are passionately charitable to the community. Michael has served at Oro Vista Volunteer Fire Department since he was about 10 years old. He was a volunteer reserve Sheriff Deputy for two different county Sheriff Departments for many years. Over the past year, he founded a local chapter of a motorcycle club dedicated to community service. He and his wife both support the American Cancer Society (ACS). His wife volunteers at the Alamogordo ACS Cancer Resource Center (CRC). She was the 2013 Relay For Life of Alamogordo Otero County. In addition, she captained a team that raised over a third of those funds. She served as a 2013 Holloman Big Give Team Captain, which shed new light on our ACS CRC. Mike and his wife supported our local community while juggling full-time jobs, two young children, ages 2 and 6, and a complicated home life and now they could use support and help facing this difficult time.
