Cavalier Swimming

The Junipero Serra High School Swim Team needs your support! Our program has been growing stronger since its birth in 2008.
Serra High School provides students from Gardena, Compton, Inglewood, Carson, and all over South Los Angeles a quality Catholic education. Teens from this area often grow up without access to pools or swim teams. Many of our swimmers never entered a pool before coming to Serra High School.

Our program truly is one of a kind. We take kids from blowing bubbles at the side of the pool to swimming sets of 100s in less than 4 weeks, and have them racing in high school level swimming competitions by the end of the season.  In addition to their amazing athletic accomplishments, our swimmers maintain an average 3.5 GPA, and 15 of our athletes made the honor roll this year.  We gained our success by instilling the highest levels integrity, committment, and sportsmanship in each of our athletes.

Our vision is to build a program that will be sustainable for years to come.  In order to do this, we need to raise money that goes beyond the cost of bathing suits, goggles, and t-shirts.  For the past two years, we have had two anonymous donors contribute over $6,000 to our program.  With this money we provided the team with a Lessons Coach, a Colorado Timing System programmable clock, fins, paddles, and uniforms.  Your generosity will help us continue this forward progression.

The items we need in order to grow are:
- Hy-tek Team Manager
- HD Video Camera and T.V.
- A second Colorado Timing System programmable clock
- Lessons Coach Salary
- Funds to run stroke clinics
- White Boards

Money gained from this drive will also go toward implementing a water polo program, middle school swim lessons, and a Junior Lifeguard program.

Our program has developed from a team of under 5 swimmers in 2008 to a contending program of over 30 swimmers. Last year, Jamal Hill, was the first Serra Swimmer to place 1st in a Varsity event in the 50 free. He went on to earn an academic / athletic scholorship to swim at Hiram College in Ohio. Jamal is the first Serra Swimmer to go on to swim for the NCAA.

We are grateful for your support and confident that we can continue to build this team and produce more student athletes like Jamal that will go on to take the Cavalier Swim spirit across the country.
